For a smile as wide as a country sunrise
Good morning and Happy Monday to everyone! Sitting out here on the deck with my coffee this morning, it is just so beautiful. We had thunderstorms last night, nothing major really, but we did get about an inch (2.5cm) of rain, and a bit of small hail so my petunias are flat as pancakes this morning. So I think it’s time for a bit of trimming and they will perk up quickly enough. My early morning gull was here for his breakfast, I really should give him a name since he is around all the time and he’s getting much braver now as well. I just have to think of a name I haven’t used in a while.
And…Sir George and Lady Pearl were back this morning and both acting normally, Sir George was as friendly as ever. That was so nice to see. As he landed on the feeder he whacked me on the head with his wing. Now if only that other gull will stay away. So we are back to normal once again here at Steve’s Country. Even Pocket, my chipmunk chased Runner, the squirrel, again this morning. Those two can sure run fast! Though it really doesn’t look normal to see a chipmunk chasing a squirrel. But that’s the way it is around here, normal isn’t always what it seems to be. As can be seen in today’s pics.
Like the above pic of the squirrel (this is Runner) on my bird feeder, what kind of normal squirrel would be doing that?
Or this male hairy woodpecker on another feeder eating sunflower seeds. Not exactly normal either. He does look happy though. And it does make things fun anyway! I hope you all have a marvelous Monday and God bless!

I miss squirrels and chipmunks out here in Newfoundland.
Seeing your pictures of them, and your descriptions always makes me feel happy. π€π·

Hmm, too bad you couldn’t import some chipmunks, but that probably wouldn’t be allowed. I’m sure they would do well though.
Glad you enjoy the pics of them, have a great day Sally!ππΊπββπΏπΏ

Yesterday we had squirrels, crowd, and other birds visiting us during our picnic. It was getting crowded. Lol! Then squirrels, I assume family were fighting over nuts. π

Almost bought a bird bell (bell thatβs covered in birdseed) the other day but I wasnβt sure if the landlord allows us to attract more wildlife. We get a lot of birds in the courtyard (backyard that everyone shares). There is one particular bird that I donβt see in Ontario – itβs black with a white stripe down itβs back. Theyβre everywhere in Calgary! I wonder what theyβre called!

How big is the bird? Not sure what birds you are familiar with. Robin size? Larger or smaller? Look up the black-billed magpie.π

I took some photos and it is indeed, a black-billed magpie! Theyβre literally everywhere so it wasnβt too hard to find one! Ty for deciphering it for me π

You’re welcome Hilary. Magpies are a common bird in the farming areas of MB and they show up around here in the fall. Had one sitting in the tree out here 2 years ago, but by the time I got my camera and went outside he was gone. I didn’t see any last year.

They’re literally everywhere in Calgary. Similar to how the Canada geese like to congregate in Ontario. Here it’s magpies. π

They are actually a nice looking bird, I hope they are around again this fall.

Good Morning Steve, It’s pretty much same for me π I work wherever I am. Only thing is I’m wasting money on my fuel πΉπ. My boss ? I’ll never meet, he works in different state π. And I’m not working in that far location now, temporarily I’m working in branch office which is close to my home π. I was badly nervous, I usually become one whenever I go new places π But it’s fun ofcourse π. Take care Steve, don’t lush yourself harder β¨π€
