For a smile as wide as a country sunrise
Good morning on this rainy, and therefore very wet, Saturday! We did get a nice hot day yesterday, but they did not forecast severe thunderstorms last night, but we got them anyway. Most of the storms went around us but we did get hit with a couple of them. That lightning was fantastic, lighting up the sky in every direction. There were a couple lightning strikes that were very close, the lightning and thunder were right together and they were big. My apartment was rattled quite strongly both those times, but also other times as well. Poor Muffin did not have a good night. I was up a lot myself, that thunder was so loud I couldn’t sleep. I should have gone outside to take pictures of the lightning, it wasn’t raining most of the time so it might have worked good. Must remember that next time. All I was thinking about was sleeping. I was tired. I’m sure Muffin had the same thoughts. About sleeping that is. There were no birds singing this morning, but the gulls were here, except Sir George and Lady Pearl. Crows were here too.
And the chipmunks were here by 6am. How do they run through all that wet foliage out there and not get wet? Well, their feet were wet. I had a new experience on Thursday while I went for a walk. I came around a curve in the path and there just 20 feet away was a wild turkey! I have never seen a wild turkey around here, though they do have them to our neighboring province to the west of us. So that was a new bird to add to my list of birds seen here. It really caught me by surprise though, that is one bird I never would have expected to see. They are not native to our area and were introduced to the west back in the 1970s. Guess they must be doing good and have begun expanding their range. Oh, look at that, the sun has come out again. It’s going to be a humid day for sure. The featured image at the top is Sir Henry getting ready to take off.
In the image above is that wild turkey. He kept watching me but didn’t seem to be scared at all. But I wasn’t moving around either which undoubtedly helped. I hope you all have a special Saturday and God bless!
Steve and Muffin.

Yes, that was fantastic, especially for a guy like me who enjoys birds so much. I never forget my camera on a walk, but I have forgotten to bring extra batteries and have missed shots while changing the battery! Doesn’t take long to miss that pic!

A neighbor normally has a humming bird feeder. Yesterday morning a humming bird showed up on the porch. A new neighbor and I smiled as it searched to meal.

Rain can sometimes lull me to sleep, but most nights I sleep with earplugs. Actually, every night I sleep with industrial earplugs. Canβt live without them!
Whatβs your secret to being so happy and cheerful everyday? Iβm actually really depressed today, much more than yesterday. It seems to come and go in waves so this is yet another wave.

Yes, a nice steady rain can be very nice to sleep by. Thunder on the other hand can be too loud at times. Rumbling type thunder isn’t so bad, it’s the loud booms and crashes that keep me awake. I like it quiet. But that’s the way it goes sometimes, a sleepless night here and there isn’t so bad.
I can understand depression, I have gone through it myself, it’s a terrible thing to deal with.
Secret? No secret at all really. It’s interesting that Ilona asked me that very same question. I would be happy to tell you, but it would have to be by email, might get a little long for a comment.
I do hope that depression doesn’t last. Have a wonderful weekend Hilary!

Out of curiosity, how long ago did she ask you that question? I had no idea Ilona was depressed… she seems to have her life together and live the perfect life. I guess itβs not always what it seems on the surface. Iβm sorry that you have dealt with depression… unfortunately mine comes and goes in waves. The crashes are pretty bad and they last a while. All the feel-good motivational quotes arenβt helping. Iβm feeling somewhat OK this evening after spending some time at a park.
My childhood cat was afraid of thunder and she would hide in the crevice under the lazy-boy chair. We had to be careful not to use that chair, knowing that she was hiding there. Iβm not sure if my cat is afraid of storms. He doesnβt seem to be. How does Muffin handle thunderstorms?

Sorry, I guess I didn’t explain it right, she didn’t ask because she was depressed, she was just wondering why I was always so happy and cheerful, I never had any of those kind of bad days, like “growl, growl, grump, grump”, those kind of days. She asked me that last fall. I haven’t heard from her since June.
I will email you this afternoon.
Muffin usually hides under the bed when thunderstorms hit, usually long before they get here she hides. If it’s really bad she stays by my feet and will follow me around very closely if I move.
The cat I had before Muffin enjoyed thunderstorms and would always run to the window to watch the lightning. Strange cat. Her brother on the other hand, would sit with me and shiver the whole time. They were named Bonnie and Clyde.
