Good morning on this very beautiful August day! The sun is shining, it is warm, and it’s windy. Well, the windy part is not so good. The wind started up around 10 last night and has been quite strong all night. That is not good for the forest fires. There are now 32 forest fires, 25 are not under control. That one fire has moved to within one mile of that town. This wind could make things bad up there. No fires close to us right now. The chipmunks came back yesterday afternoon and they were here this morning until Jasper’s twin showed up, now they have disappeared again. So he is the reason. But he might end up being as much fun as Runner. Jasper 2, now named Rocky, came this morning and spotted a chipmunk just leaving. The chase was on and chipmunk (Skamper) jumped, so did Rocky. However, Rocky was in a hurry and not quite used to jumping yet so he didn’t do too well and kind of landed with a flop.

He also lost sight of Skamper so came back right away only to find Chester filling up with peanuts. Chester ran, so did Rocky, around the flower pots and it looked like he was going to jump. But just as Rocky got there Chester ran off to the side and poor Rocky had no time to stop. Over the went, while Chester scampered off to safety. Rocky comes back, grabs a peanut and off he goes. When he comes back, Skamper is there again and the chase is on. Skamper jumped over to one of the tall raspberry plants (about 7 feet tall) and ran down the plant to the ground and disappeared. I guess Rocky figured if he can do it so can I. So he tried. And he slid down the raspberry plant. Poor Rocky. He came back up, scratch, scratch, (saying to himself, prickles, those things have prickles), he takes 2 jumps, scratch, scratch. I think he learned something new today. Muffin and I were watching, and laughing. Just couldn’t help it.

Well, for our flowers today are two different colors of petunias, I hope you enjoy them. Have a wonderful day and God bless!

      • Canada seemed like heaven and terrestrial paradise on earth . I imagined forest fires non-existent in such northren places especially that it rains in the summer …

      • It takes a lot of rain to keep these forests healthy. The problem is there is very little soil in this part of Canada and because of the rocky hills most of the water runs off quickly into lakes and rivers, so the ground dries very quickly. We have many summers that are very bad for forest fires, even further north than this. And it takes 80 to 100 years to return the forest to what it is presently, even longer further north.

      • Forest fires help renew forests …
        One thing that is good if sheep could be released into forests to reduce and eat some dead and dry herbs there …
        In the past , our ancestors used to burn weeds in the spring and tje sheep used to eat herbs and make forests safer …

      • Well, that is true, but it takes such a long time, and forests only need that once they become over mature which forests here are not, most are just barely coming to maturity after logging took place more than a hundred years ago. But really, the science doesn’t prove it’s such a good thing since so many of our animals require mature forests to live.
        Sheep would never survive here, the terrain is not good and there are so many wolves and coyotes. Definitely not sheep country. This area is mostly rock, moss and trees with shrubs for undergrowth. Sheep ranching was tried many years ago in a couple areas that had more soil and therefore more plants for sheep to eat, but even there it didn’t work well. Our winters are much too long and cold with very deep snow which is another problem. But even the plants on the ground are necessary for a healthy ecosystem, that’s where small animals and birds live.
        We used to get all day rains here, but not now, mostly rain comes through thunderstorms now which is not the best. Storms give a lot of rain, but it nearly all runs off right away without soaking into the ground. Plus thunderstorms can produce a lot of fires due to lightning strikes along the edge of storms where there is not much rain. Sorry for the long reply.😁

      • informative …I think we can mitigate climate change through planting trees , reducing the use of oil fuels and promoting renewable energy resources…

    • Canada has a lot of water and rivers , so this helps relinquish fire. In Canada , it rains in the summer as well …I imagined Canada to be terrestrial paradise and like heaven on earth …

    • Hi Simon! Good evening/night! Fires are hard on animals, a lot die from the smoke since they always run ahead of the fire to escape. Except for animals along the edge, they will turn to the side and get away. But these forest fires are so unpredictable and dangerous when it’s windy. And when they get to a certain size, they will create their own wind.
      It is fun watching the chipmunks and squirrel, a real joy!

    • I think they do, but probably not too far in advance of the fire. Except those directly ahead of the fire, they would smell the smoke a long ways ahead. Generally smaller animals try to escape by going underground. Chipmunks would be safe, they go deep, squirrels perhaps not since they stay more shallow.

    • Thanks! Hey, no fair taking our rain. We might get some too, but in the way of thunderstorms which could also give us a lot more fires. Have a good night!😃😺🌙⛈🙀

  9. Forest fires are scary. When I lived in Florida, it seemed there were way too many forest fires, especially in the everglades. In North Georgia, where we live now forest fires are not such a menace, however, they have been a problem in southern Ga near the Fla/Ga line. Stay safe and give Muffin a hug! ☕️☕️🚒🚒😺

    • Yes, forest fires are scary, especially when they get close like that one near that town, only 1 mile away. But they are holding that fire at the moment. The 2 closest fires to here are both out now. Shall do! Have a wonderful day Eugenia!😁😸☕☕
