Daily Pics #278.

Good morning everyone and Happy Frosty Friday to you all! And it sure is frosty with a temp of 25F (-4C), and it’s cloudy. If it had been clear the temp likely would have gone much colder. But there sure is a lot of action outside with all the different birds this morning. Plus Jasper was here for quite awhile too. So I stayed out there with him making sure he actually got some peanuts today without having to chase the blue jays the whole time. Jasper has his winter coat on now so he is darker than he was during the summer, but it’s still a nice color. What he needs is a little hat to wear, but I doubt I could get it on him. No chipmunks showed up this morning, but there was birds, and still is lots of birds out there. I counted 26 evening grosbeaks on my feeder, plus another 12 waiting for a spot to open up so they could get on too. And there are too many juncos to count now, they are crawling around all over the ground, the deck, the roof. They are inside every box where I put food.

But if this cold weather keeps up they will be leaving very soon. No snow on the ground yet, but the ground sure is freezing hard already. That could push the frost deep this winter which isn’t good. Once it starts to freeze it’s good to have some snow as well. But these frosty late fall mornings always remind me of fall hiking, insulator collecting…and freezing. But it can be a fun time of year. These days I prefer to enjoy it from inside. Except for spending some time with my little friends outside. And not so little. There was 5 deer out here this morning. It was just starting to get light and I was taking the feeders out and Mama, my main deer, was here with a young one. Then another doe, named Mama T, came with another young one and a young buck. But Mama was clearly the boss of the group and chased that young buck when he got too close.

Large leaved goldenrod.

Well, for our featured image today we have the “smooth aster”, one of many varieties of wild asters we have in the area. There sure wasn’t as many asters this year as there normally would be. Only found 2 of the smooth asters this year. And the pic above is the “large leaved goldenrod”. Although many people think that goldenrod causes allergy problems they really don’t. Goldenrod just doesn’t produce the right kind of pollen to be a problem to those suffering with allergies. That’s a good thing since they are a very bright and beautiful fall wildflower. I hope you all have a fantastic Friday and God bless!

  2. Was there any room to walk around with all the birds and deer feasting on the treats you put out ? Wow ! Loved the pics ! ☕️☕️🥜😻🤭☕️☕️🍩🍩

    • Fortunately the deer don’t come on the deck, they have to find their own treats. Still lots for them to eat yet. I think a lot of the birds will be disappearing very soon since it’s staying so cold. Sigh.🥶
      Thanks, have a great weekend!😀😺🌙
