For a smile as wide as a country sunrise
Good morning everyone! Happy Monday to everyone as well! It seems to be getting colder each day, yesterday it only reached a high of 28F (about -2C) and this morning it is only 21F (about -6C), and it feels colder with the wind. We’re supposed to get a bit of snow this week as well. But since it’s cold it’s better to have some snow on the ground or the frost will go deep into the ground this year. And that’s not good. It means a lot of frozen water pipes this winter. My chipmunks have all gone to bed now but they did stay around much later than normal this year. At least some of them did. Now Jasper has no one to play with. They helped keep Jasper in shape. Still, there is the blue jays. A blue jay went in the box to get some peanuts. He just got in there when Jasper came along all happy and went in the same box, but opposite end. What a commotion in that box! Then the blue jay came flying out his end and Jasper came flying out his end! They both stopped and looked back. Jasper came walking slowly back to the box and looked inside. Empty. So he went in slowly, grabbed a peanut and ran off fast.
Then the blue jay came back and did the same thing. Not quite the same as a chipmunk though. For some reason Jasper would slide a lot more than the chipmunks when he chased them. Perhaps because he was bigger. And heavier. Meaning he was fatter. One time chasing Pocket they were really moving along. Pocket made a sudden right hand turn by the water dish and jumped off the deck. Jasper tried that too and slid against the water dish splashing water all over himself! Good thing it was summer and a warm morning. I sat down and gave Jasper a triple peanut, a nice big one. Just as he took it Skamper showed up and the chase was on! Momentarily. That long peanut got in Jasper’s way and I guess it got stuck in between the boards on the deck just a little bit which caused Jasper to flip right over! That gave Skamper time to hide and Jasper just ran off, probably a little embarrassed. I waited until he left before I laughed. Those were good summer mornings. The chipmunks might disagree.
The featured image is a nice bright hollyhock from back in the summer. And the pic above is a beautiful single daylily which grow beside my deck, this one is from late July. I hope you all have a wonderful day and God bless!

Can’t water pipes be isolated in one way or another especially in this modern technology era ?

The frost goes very deep, there is just no economical way to insulate them so they don’t freeze, takes more than just insulation, they need to be heated too. So in high risk areas like here, we leave water running all the time to prevent freezing, but that also is expensive, it uses a lot of water.

Do you think geothermal energy can help sooner or later?

Quite possible but it would be very expensive as the whole system would have to be changed. Perhaps at some point in the future.

That’s true, it would work in new areas where they can start off the right way.

It’s still paining. Snow means slippery and slippery means that Steve falls down a lot. I cleared the snow off the deck, it was wet under the snow, which froze right away.π§ I stood on a box to put seeds out and the box slid on the ice.π³π§ Not good. π Box went one way,π¬ Steve went the other way. π² Not good.π Steve hit back on postπ and sit down moaning and groaning.π€ͺ Now it’s time for bed.π Looking forward to lie down again. Ouch! Ouch! Ouch! can yu get some help pls π³π³ I’m seeing a movie here in my head π You should stop taking risks, all you need is patience π think all your plans once with side effects, have that one question what if it goes wrong, and be preparedπ that way you can climb onto something prepared so that you won’t get slipped. Dont do that again π³π³ it must have been painful,πΌ how is it now? have any medicine to put on the injured places π€. Take care Steve π€ and sleep and recover ππ€

Well look at that!π I gave you a free movie to watch, isn’t that nice of me?ππ³ I’m feeling quite a bit better now. As for getting help, no way I can do that just to go feed the birds. If it wasn’t for our town’s bylaw for having bird feeders 10 feet high I would be okay,π¬ππΎ I wouldn’t have to stand on boxes. Sigh. Winter is a hard time of year.π€π¨ Especially for me it seems. Maybe I need to stop feeding birds.π€π¦ Sigh. Have a nice relaxing evening Simon.πππΈ And stop watching these terrible Steve movies!π²ππΉ

Can’t feed birds on the ground, not legal, it must be on a feeder 10 feet (about 3 meters) off the ground. Otherwise I get a $500 fine.π² My neighbor turned me in once so now I have to do things just right.π Hopefully I won’t fall, it’s a long ways down to the ground.π³ Just ask Jasper, he’s made the trip many times!ππΉ

Put on shoes that can have some pointed sharp objects to stick in the ice and remain fixed under your feet …

We do have those, but they really are not too good directly on ice as they are not sharp enough to dig in. My landlord wouldn’t like it anyway, they would tear up the wood deck.
