Good morning everyone! It’s not quite so cold this morning and we got another couple inches (5cm) of snow overnight. But the temp is supposed to rise to 1C (34F) today. That will feel nice after the terrible cold of yesterday. The birds are certainly busy this morning, the little juncos and sparrows can’t find much food right now with all the new snow. So I went down and flattened out the snow close to the deck so I could spread seeds for the birds without having the seeds sink deep into the snow which would make it harder for the birds to find. That requires more energy which in turn means they need more food. So this makes it easier for them. Jasper is here this morning and he stopped for a bit to chat. So I swept off a spot to sit and gave him a nice peanut which he started to eat right away. The blue jays were not too happy with that arrangement, it meant they couldn’t get at the other peanuts. So I tossed some over for them too. Poor Jasper. He didn’t like that arrangement so even though he had lots of peanuts he just had to go and chase the blue jays away from their spot. Jasper came back and began eating his peanut again. I think he was quite happy with himself for chasing away the blue jays.
That didn’t last long however and the blue jays were back again. Jasper looked. Then he ran in circles and off he went after the blue jays again. He even tried jumping in the air as high as he could to try and catch a blue jay. Waste of time Jasper. He came back after his job was done. The blue jays stayed away, but only because there was no more peanuts. Jasper likely thought he scared them away for good. Not a chance Jasper. Finally he finished his peanut, grabbed another one and off he went. I went back inside and the blue jays came for the remaining peanuts. Theodore, my wild turkey friend, is also here right now eating his breakfast. That bird can really eat. It certainly is nice having him around though, and he likes to stand around and talk as well, like Jasper. But I guess he doesn’t have any friends around here. There really is quite an assortment of different critters around here. Makes for a nice morning, even in the winter.
Well, for our pics today, they are all the same flower, the bachelor’s button, but in 3 different colors which I don’t think I have shown all together before. But maybe I have at one time. Anyway, here they are. There is one more color variation but I was unable to find it in all my pics, which desperately need to be sorted out again. Perhaps I never did get a pic of that other one, but I’ll keep looking. They are a nice bright flower to brighten up a winter morning. We hope you all have a wonderful Wednesday and God bless!
