For a smile as wide as a country sunrise
Good morning and Happy Saturday to all of you! It’s a bit milder this morning than it was yesterday, but still feels cold. The humidity is high still so that always makes things feel colder once the temp gets below freezing. Apparently once the temperature goes below 50F (10C), then the humidity will make it feel colder. Its a quiet morning at the feeders, not much activity at all. That’s a bit odd. Usually first thing in the morning is a busy time, birds are normally hungry after a long night. Even Jasper hasn’t shown up. The blue jays are here however, though not as many. Same with the chickadees and one nuthatch. Those chickadees were sure busy late yesterday afternoon. I haven’t seen that many around yet this winter. They certainly like that new feeder I put up the other day. I haven’t seen any redpolls use it yet, but I’m hoping. It will just take one to find it and the rest will join that one very quickly. I sure hope the grosbeaks come back, but those rock doves scared them away again yesterday.
Those birds can be mean. Speaking of the rock doves, they just came flying in again. They sit in the trees all morning waiting for a chance to get at any food that might come out. I only put food out where they can’t get it now. But they still come down and scare away the other birds. They must be getting fed somewhere else in the afternoon. But that makes it harder to get rid of them. I might have to give up any thoughts of getting my grosbeaks back again this winter. Too bad really. They provide some nice photo opportunities for the winter. We don’t have many different birds during the winter, that are easy to find anyway. Right now I have 7 different species coming to my feeders. And today, as I mentioned, we have some pics of one of my favorite birds, the gray jay. This is a bird that looks and acts much differently than other jays. These birds are naturally friendly and fun to have around. Males and females look alike, and they are not colorful like other jays and yet they have their own beauty. Thank you for joining me today. I hope you all have a wonderful weekend and God bless!
Steve and Muffin.

Happy Caturday! π I survived night shift so Iβm in a more cheerful mood than usual. If possible, stay indoors and avoid people. Home is the safest place to be.

Hi Hilary! Yes, staying home for sure, there’s too many people at the stores on the weekend for me. Especially now with the virus starting to get worse in our little town too. Have a great day!ππΊπββ

The pandemic is worse in Alberta than other provinces. Our numbers are 1,000+ cases per day. I think we are up to 1,500+ per day now. Iβve got night shift tonight so I will try to make the best of it. π€·ββοΈ

Yep, you will soon have as many cases per day as Ontario, we’re going over 1,800 now, hope it doesn’t stay that high. Keep safe Hilary!

There seems to be no end in sight. And even if we get access to vaccines, it will probably take forever before we get them in Canada. More than half of the units on the floor Iβm on are on COVID-Watch and itβs just a matter of time until this unit gets infected too. π·

Oh my, doesn’t sound good. Yes, I think it will be a long time yet before vaccines will be widely available. Take care and keep safe Hilary!π³π

The gray jay is cute…there are none this way…at least I have never seen one…talk about inactivity…no squirrels, two chickadees which is unusual…if they donβt come tomorrow something must be wrong…rest well, Steve and Muffin ! βοΈβοΈπ»ππ

No, you wouldn’t get gray jays out your way. It might have been the nice weather, although it did get active here starting about mid morning. Have a good night!ππΊππ΄

Love your pics, Steve! I’m not familiar with gray jays and perhaps they are not typical to our area. We have some cold weather coming our way tomorrow and maybe even some snow. βοΈβοΈβοΈβοΈπ¨ βοΈπ¨ βοΈπ§£ π§€π₯Ά

Yes, gray jays are a northern bird, only touching some of the northern parts of the northern states, from Minnesota to Michigan, perhaps Maine too. Common bird around here, I really enjoy them. Snow too, happy to share!ππΈβββ

Good morning Simon! Yes, I was in bed by the time you wrote your comment. I didn’t get much sleep though, my sciatic nerve is bothering me a lot these days, especially at night. Yep, last month, and I too hope that next year will be a better year. Have a great day Simon!ππΊπββ

Are you not going to physiotherapy? These days? ππ€π² You should start going again if you are not going, these pains can disturb sleep a lot. Better go Steve and recover from pains.Take care. And yes last year I did the same on December, hoping for an awesome yearπ« I’m not hoping, let’s seeπ maybe it will behave good when I don’t expect from it π

No, not going to physiotherapy right now. Last time they didn’t really help with my sciatic pain, just made it worse.π² I think the pain is worse right now because I’m walking more and I have to wear my winter boots which are bigger and heavier than my summer hiking shoes.π€π³πΆββοΈ But it’s too dangerous walking without my winter boots. π¬If it gets worse I will go see my doctor,π€ he’s the only one that can get me in to physiotherapy anyway.π

If necessary, but while this virus is around and getting so bad a hospital is not a place I want to be, good place to get sick!π³π³

π³ Valid point, but π you could still ask them to come home and do the physiotherapy πat least on a video call π€ With technology they can still help us right π

Unfortunately they don’t do video calls with physio. And they don’t do house calls.π They need to do some massaging plus they have a special machine they also use.π€π That machine actually does help.π However, it’s feeling a lot better now that I have changed boots.ππΆββοΈπΆββοΈ
