For a smile as wide as a country sunrise
Good morning everyone! It is a bit chilly and frosty this morning, but it’s mainly clear and we are supposed to have a mainly sunny day. So Muffin and I are excited about that. The coffee is ready and waiting, or tea if you prefer, so just help yourself, sit back and relax! The chickadees were here earlier than usual, due to the clear skies which means it gets lighter earlier. The nuthatches came second, then the female hairy woodpecker. She was pounding away then suddenly stopped, giving a warning call to everyone. The chickadees froze in position. I looked all around and finally spotted the shrike high in an ash tree. He sat there for quite awhile. Finally the blue jays showed up and the shrike left in a hurry.
So everything returned to normal at the feeders. There are a lot more chickadees around now which is nice. I guess the natural food supply is dwindling so they look for other sources of food. Jasper was running around the trees this morning having fun. One large, long branch still has quite a bit of snow on it and Jasper came running, made a big leap and slid down the snow on that branch right to the main part of the tree. Looked like he was having a lot of fun. Then I spotted the “other” squirrel coming and Jasper went to meet him. But Jasper turned and ran down a tree to the ground. The “other” squirrel came down that tree so fast landing on top of Jasper.
The fight began. They were really rolling around on the snow fighting. They broke apart a couple of times, sat looking at each other, then back at it again. Longest fight they have had yet, that I have seen anyway. Finally Jasper came over and the “other” squirrel ran away. Jasper won that round! Hopefully that “other” squirrel got the message this time. Not only that, but a blue jay had hidden a peanut in the snow on a branch. As Jasper was coming back this way he found that peanut, and sat there having breakfast! Jasper won twice! Well, we’re having a “white” day so our flowers and bird will show that in the pics. I hope you have a wonderful Wednesday and God bless!
Steve and Muffin.

If I see animals disagreeing especially cats or any house pets , I do my best to separate them and calm them as much as I find it possible …If I can not Do anything about it , at least I have done what I could to reconcile them or at least make them calmer and/or peaceful …

Good way to do it with house pets, a little dangerous with wild animals, even something as small as a squirrel. Except to perhaps throw something at them, but then it might hurt them, which I don’t want to do either. If they are close by I try to scare them apart which usually works okay, even if only temporary.

Give them food with your two hands separately so they feel that there is enough resources to be given and provided for all …

I’m afraid that doesn’t work with wild animals, especially two males. Males don’t like to share the same territory, females will at times, though not always.

Yep, I hope that means the other squirrel will give up now, though I doubt it, the food is too good!😂 But maybe he will stay away from Jasper now anyway.🤔 It was a beautiful day,🌞 though I think perhaps I froze a little bit.🥶🙄

Yep, colder weather is coming so I’ll stay inside. Besides the government’s stay at home order begins tomorrow so that will mean not going out anyway. Have a good morning while I say good night!😁🌞🌙😴

This is the toughest lockdown yet, it’s getting really bad over here with this virus. They are shipping people from hospitals to other places because our hospitals are over capacity now and if this keeps up our whole health care system will collapse by mid February. Yes, our economy is in big trouble too. This is only here in Ontario, not all of Canada. Good night, I’m gone.😁

If you can avoid being outside, please do. It’s icy, cold, and windy today, and I was concerned about my safety walking home today from campus. Idk if it’s this icy in Ontario, but it’s quite bad here. Also, I feel like maintenance has slacked off on dealing with the icy parking lot. It was never this bad last year.

It isn’t too icy right now, but we are supposed to get freezing rain overnight and tomorrow with colder temps so that will make things bad. All of Ontario is under a stay at home order starting at midnight tonight for the next 28 days due to the virus getting so bad here.

Icy roads is what we’re dealing with here. It’s not even safe walking to campus (where the dr’s office is located). I wasn’t sure how I was going to make it home safely today without injuring myself. I’m trying to stay inside as much as possible now that I’m at home.
I heard it’s gotten quite bad in Ontario. Is it true that you aren’t allowed to leave your house at all? What happens if you try to leave?

We can only leave for essential things such as grocery shopping, pharmacy, medical appointments or short periods of exercise. It would definitely be hard to enforce though I think, unless they plan to stop everyone they see to find out if their trip is essential. They should be doing like European countries and have people fill out papers every time they go out which would be given to police to show an essential trip.

I’m grateful that we don’t have such tough restrictions like that. We can leave the house and the malls are still open (with long lines due to new policies). I really don’t socialize with people, so I don’t feel like I’m missing out on too much. I was never part of the drinking or partying crowds (guess I’m an old soul) 😅

Staying at home doesn’t bother me, I have the company of all my birds. And I don’t have to go out to enjoy them. Except once a day to make sure they have food. And I can still go for a short walk. Considering colder weather is coming, a short walk will be fine! Not many stores open here neither right now, so why go out?
