Coffee At Steve’s Country #65. Fun And Spring?

Good morning everyone and Happy Saturday as well! Coffee is ready, just help yourself and relax with Muffin and I for a few minutes. It’s a beautiful sunny spring morning, with a temp of 23F (-5C). However, it isn’t quite spring yet, this weather is giving us a taste of spring to come, but colder weather is returning next week and is supposed to hang around for another couple weeks after it arrives. Actually, it’s supposed to be up and down temps until at least mid April. However, the forecaster said they really were not sure how things were going to work out for our spring.

A geranium on my deck last summer.

That was after spending 10 minutes telling us the spring forecast. He could have saved 10 minutes by just saying that one sentence at the beginning. But I guess people wouldn’t have liked that too much. But at least he was being honest. Trying to forecast spring up here in the north is not an easy thing to do sometimes. There doesn’t seem to be any particular pattern. Except that for the last 20 years it has been getting colder and later. The birds are sure busy this morning, though none showed up very early. Jasper and Sylvie were here too, but have now gone again. They didn’t run quite so much through the trees this morning, but that might come later. Poor Jasper. But he has to stay in shape. Although if he gets too tired out, he won’t be able to chase the chipmunks. I’m sure they won’t mind however. I wonder when the chipmunks will start to show up? It’s warm enough for them now, but hopefully they won’t come out just yet. They would just have to go back into hiding if it gets colder again.

Beautiful flowers from one of our parks last summer.

I’m almost expecting Coffee to show up though, he got a late start gathering food, so he might run out sooner than the others. I will have to keep watching for him. Look at that, some starlings have shown up this morning. Not a very popular bird with most people, just listed by people as another “blackbird”, but they are quite fun and comical to watch. And if you get to see them up close and in the sun, they are amazingly colorful birds. I’m back. I tried for a picture, but they flew as soon as I opened the door, happens every time. I still don’t have a picture of one. Maybe this year. I need to be outside when they show up, then I will have a chance. The challenge continues. Sometimes the most common birds can be the most difficult. Or maybe it’s just me. Oh well, one day. Always an extra challenge, which is nice. Have a wonderful day and God bless!

    • Thanks Beverly! Yes, looking forward to those flowers, we have such a short growing season here, about 3 months, have to take advantage of it!πŸ˜€πŸ˜Ίβ˜•β˜•πŸŒž

      • You’re welcome Steve! Wow, that is a short growing season. Yes, you have to definitely take advantage of it. I get disappointed that the beautiful tulips that come up in my front porch area in the spring do not last long enough, especially if we get snow or frost in April, but there are other flowers I fall back on during the summer months, including various types of roses. Three months is a short time, but I know it is beautiful in that timeframe. πŸ˜β˜•οΈπŸŒž

      • So nice that you can have roses. My landlord has roses too, but most are wild roses and one bush is an old fashioned hardy rose. Almost impossible to grow tea roses here, I have tried many times. I used to grow mini roses in pots and bring them in for the winter which worked good, but this apartment is too small for that. But I hope to enlarge my container garden this year, hope that works out.πŸ˜ƒπŸ˜ΊπŸŒžπŸŒΌπŸŒΉ

  5. Yes, I am so happy my rental house has climbing roses 🌹 with a beautiful trellis in the front, just in front of be front steps and Mr. Lincoln roses in the back along the back. I also have a different type on the side of the front steps, I believe Rosa β€˜Ingrid Bergman.’ My biggest challenge is to properly prune the climbing roses to keep them looking full and growing the proper way in the trellis. It is definitely worth the time. I am glad that your landlord has some. I am sure that makes the outside of the building pretty. I hope all goes well with you expanding your container garden. I am sure the result will be beautiful. 🌹 🌸 🌺 πŸ˜‚πŸŒžβ˜•οΈ

    • That sounds great with all those roses. Climbing roses definitely don’t work up here. Ingrid Bergman roses are beautiful, I have not seen the Mr. Lincoln before. I hope you have a great week Beverly!πŸ˜ƒπŸ˜ΈπŸŒž

      • Hoping it all works out. I love seeing a variety of flowers together. So beautiful! I mixed in some other flowers πŸ’ with the multicolored tulips 🌷 last year in the front flower bed (planted the bulbs in October 2019). They came up so nicely and then we had heavy snowfall with frost last April. They only lasted three weeks, but they were pretty. We’ll see at the end of next month. It’s nice having them come up every year. Yes, hope your variety works out! 😁🌞🌸🌺🌼😁

      • Hopefully your tulips will have a better time this year. Tulips don’t do well up here either, the late ones will sometimes work in good sunny spots. Daffodils do much better here though they bloom quite late. I need to get some more pots for my container garden and should do that soon before the stores sell out. People like to buy things early.πŸ˜ƒπŸ˜ΊπŸŒžπŸŒ±πŸŒΌ

      • Thanks on the tulips. Yes, hoping they last longer. Daffodils 🌼 are pretty. Yes, I see they grow well in most regions of North America. It is a nice, hardy flower. Yes, you don’t want to miss out on those flower pots. That happens here as well, people start early. 😁🌞🌱🌸
