Steve’s Bird Of The Day #34.

Hi to all of you! Nice to have you back with us today. And here we have the female mallard duck. She is definitely not very colorful like the male, but she needs her duller colors to blend it better with her surroundings for safety during the nesting season. The young looks just like their mother in color and in fall the males will begin to take on their colors, but may not get their full colors until the next season. If the nest is lost then they will try again, up to 3 or 4 times if necessary to get a successful nesting, but there will be less eggs each time. The normal would be 8 to 12 eggs, but up to 15 are sometimes laid. I hope you all have a great day and God bless!
