For a smile as wide as a country sunrise
Good morning everyone! There’s a nice fresh pot of hot coffee ready to drink, just help yourself to as much as you want. Well, we certainly had a beautiful day yesterday, it went up to 57F (14C). Right now it is snowing, very strong wind and the temp has been falling, it is now 20F (-7C) and is supposed to continue to fall throughout the day. There’s not much bird activity this morning, but I imagine the small birds are staying in more sheltered areas. Even my gulls have not come around. Last evening it was so nice, I was out bringing the bird feeders in for the night and I stood out on the deck for awhile. It was warm, but windy, and just getting dark. There were thousands of gulls flying around squawking.
It was quite remarkable, the whole flock of them had come back finally. But I think they may have been making arrangements to head back south before this blast of cold came in. Can’t blame them for that. It’s winter again, for a couple days anyway, then it starts to warm up again. Yesterday I was out feeding the chipmunks, Skamper and Pocket were here. Then Chester showed up, first time for him since last year. Pocket is the number 1 chipmunk around here, meaning he’s the boss. Chester is number 2. Poor Skamper was number 4 last year, so right now he’s number 3. Coffee, who was last on the list, hasn’t been around for a few days now. I hope nothing has happened to him. So the other 3 were taking turns on my lap getting peanuts until one time when Skamper was there and Pocket came.
Oh my. Poor Skamper. Pocket jumped on him and they rolled around a bit, one squealed, likely Skamper from being bitten, but finally he broke away and ran off. I had a talk with Pocket about sharing, after all, there’s lots for everyone. Pocket and Chester then had a tumble together. A more equal fight at least, but Pocket was the winner again. Sigh. So much for that talk. Now if Jasper would just accept the chipmunks and let them give the other squirrels a hard time instead. I think that would work out rather well. I must have another talk with Jasper. Not a bird around right now, not even the crows. That’s odd. There was an American Kestrel around yesterday scaring the birds and chipmunks. He’s a small falcon. I tried for a pic but he wouldn’t sit down anywhere close by. Oh well. Have a wonderful day everyone and God bless!

I guess those peanuts bring out the worst in all of them π

Yep, they all want them and don’t want to share. But then, they don’t know there’s always more.π

What I do with the cats here , is I divide things among them where each cat eats separately in a different place and leave the others to eat each alone …

That’s a good way to do it. But it wouldn’t work with these animals, wild animals are different and very protective of their food source, it’s their life. So if they see another animal they will chase it away.

Didn’t you just say that? You’re spelling your name odd now, though it comes through normal for me.
