Coffee Time #95. That Crazy Bear.

Good morning everyone! It’s another beautiful spring morning here. The coffee is also ready and it’s time to relax as we look around at what’s happening out here. There are a lot of birds this morning, the number of juncos continues to grow every day, but I have yet to see any sparrows in the group and that is so odd. Some sparrows should be back by now, such as tree sparrows, song sparrows and even white-throated sparrows. I have heard a robin singing the last 2 mornings, but not today. That is also odd, there should be a lot back by now.

But maybe they know something. There is unpleasant sounding weather coming our way for the next week or so. Therefore I will need my bird feeders in good condition. Which brings us back to that crazy bear. He was around last evening, before 7pm, that’s too early, the sun is still shining. I can’t bring my feeders in before 7, the birds are still out there. Plus he’s around after 7 in the morning. The birds start coming at 6am. That poses a problem. Early morning and evening are the main times for the birds to come now that spring is here. I tried to explain this to the bear last evening while he was munching seeds from the second broken feeder in one day. I was inside, he was outside, but I had the window open on the door so I could talk to him.

Bert the Bear, I don’t know if it’s male or female, but it’s annoying so I figure it must be male.

I don’t think he was listening too well, he was too busy munching. Muffin alerted me to the fact he was out there. She was looking out the window and suddenly ran for the kitchen. So I knew the bear was out there. I tried going out for a picture and he almost stayed on the deck by the steps, but then he heard a noise from my landlord and that scared it away. But then, I really don’t want that bear to get too friendly either, that’s never a good thing. I don’t mind friendly deer, even though they also can be dangerous and can easily kill people. It’s been done. But there’s something about bears that just says, “Danger”.

I’m showing my peanut box so you all know what I’m talking about. It’s a plastic dairy box turned upside down so the handles become doors for the chipmunks and squirrels. Even the blue jays will go inside. But it keeps the crows from getting the peanuts. Crows can eat a lot of peanuts. I have several of these boxes on the deck. Which I trip over. And fall off. But they are very handy. Oh well. Have a wonderful day everyone and God bless!

  1. May God bless our world with justice and righteousness…
    Sometimes , animals are more merciful than human madness .
    If you feed animals , they can become friends .Be careful though but I have heard about wolves that saved the lives of humans and protected them in return for being treated well and given food to survive …

    • That’s true, sometimes these wild animals will help to protect those who are feeding them. They begin to accept humans as part of them. But yes, caution is always advised when dealing with wild animals. They are still wild, and therefore can be unpredictable. I am always very careful around them. Have a nice day Wael.😀😺

    • Yes, they certainly can do that. But being careful is always necessary. I always look for signs that the animal might be getting nervous or agitated, that’s when they can become dangerous.

  4. If bears are not with their cubs , they are less dangerous and if you are generous with them like with the squirrels, they might become safer May be…

    • Yes, a mother bear with a cub is very dangerous and should never be approached at any time. This bear is a 2 year old, likely just kicked out by his mother this spring. It is against the law to feed bears here though, there have been too many problems in our area with bears.

  7. That’s a brilliant way of feeding chipmunks… you are a born genius 🤓 not like me 😂. Bear is very annoying kind of like me ,😉 I am very annoying at times 😄. And stay away from bears. it is very dangerous and deers too, kind of scary, just be careful when they are around… stay safe… Enjoy the beautiful sunrise and sunsets 🤓😍🥰🤗

      • He came back.🐻 This afternoon while I was out repotting plants. Sigh.😲🙄🐻 And again this evening. Double sigh.😳🙄🐻 He took apart my new bird feeder. Triple sigh.😬🙄🐻 He is cute though. Has a white patch underneath.🙄😳🐻

      • Oh boy, not good. He is getting attached. 🐻 Sorry about your new feeder. 🙄. So, he is cute and missing his mama, looking for food and friends, not good. I am not surprised he is getting attached to you. This is tough, you know what I am doing. 🙏

      • Thanks Beverly! Bert was back this morning, but I haven’t seen him since. But this is trash day so maybe he is finding some good stuff around the neighborhood.😳🙄🐻

      • Yep, maybe. Yes, be sure to thank him. He might take cover from the rain somewhere else and end up staying there. 🌧 ☔️ If so, I believe there will possibly be mixed feelings about his departure, at least initially. 😁🐻

  9. It sounds like Bert is looking for an easy meal. Not a good thing. Your birds might have to wait until Bert leaves the area! 😔

    • That’s the problem with spring, not much food for the bears so they come in to town. We get a lot of them unfortunately, spring and fall, not so much in summer. I can’t stop feeding now, this is migration time, I would miss too many birds and opportunities for photos.😬📷

    • Thanks Sharon! There’s not much food for the bears this time of year and they are hungry, so they come in to town looking for something to eat. Minor problems.😀😺☕☕🌞🐻
