For a smile as wide as a country sunrise
Good morning to everyone! Coffee’s ready, Muffin is anxiously waiting to greet all of you and spring has come back once more! Briefly anyway. More cold and a little snow is coming again beginning Sunday. But that could change, and right now it’s a beautiful spring morning. The robins are singing. The snow we had melted yesterday, except for a patch here and there in shady places. Those golden rays of sunshine are hitting the tops of the trees. Even the gulls as they soar around this morning are being touched with those rays of sunshine making them glow yellow instead of their usual white. Now if they would just stay still so I could get a picture of them like that.

I have a problem, when I look up I tend to lose my balance and fall. So if possible I like to lie down, or sit. But even sitting is no guarantee that I won’t fall. Sigh. Speaking of bears. Many of you commented on my being close to Bert when I took those pics that I showed yesterday. We were about 12 feet apart, as the chickadee flies, but my deck is high, and Bert was on a hill out back behind my apartment. He would have to go down a very steep rock hill, then across a narrow patch of grass and up my stairs to get at me. Bears have a hard time going down steep slopes, they have to go a bit slower than normal, due to being back end heavy.

I also had my door open so I could get in quick if necessary, not wide open or Muffin would get out, but open enough that I could push it open fast and get in. Plus I had my bear spray handy. So I’m not really taking chances, all safety considerations were in place. Right now it’s probably safer out there with Bert than it would be walking to the river and meeting a bear down there. It can make a person nervous sometimes. But hopefully I can make it to the river today and see if there is anything new down there. Providing the sun comes back. For some reason heavy clouds have moved in again.

I’m back. Sir Henry was here looking in the window, which means he wants some breakfast, so I took some food out to him. Turns out there were 4 other gulls waiting for food as well. More food goes out. Then Jasper showed up. So I fed him. I got some pics of him and Sir Henry, though not together. Pics are just not as good when it’s cloudy though. Jasper almost looked lonely. No other squirrels showed up yesterday or this morning. Skamper came yesterday while Jasper was here. Jasper didn’t even chip at him. Those two seem to be working together as a team to get rid of the other squirrels. So there’s no more fighting between these two. Kind of amazing really. Oh well. Have a wonderful day everyone and God bless!

No, no, no volcanoes here,π except dead ones.π» It’s the volcanoes that blow their tops down in the south Pacific, Indonesia and Philipines that affect our weather so much.πππ³π¬ The ash from those volcanoes goes so high in the atmosphere and it comes up to the north blocking some of the sun’s heat from reaching us.π They can give us a mild winter because of all the clouds they produce but also give us cool and wet spring and summer.π³π

I didn’t know such far volcanoes can impact climate so much π³ we have one extinct volcano but it’s quiet far from.my place in India we have very few extinct volcanoes, more for this small country π. Do extinct volcano get active π€ is there a chance? how many extinct volcanoes around uπ€

There are dozens of volcanoes in Canada, out west in the mountains,π several dozen are listed as dormant but still active,π¬π meaning they could erupt any time.ππ² But the last eruption was 150 years ago. But dormant volcanoes are different than extinct volcanoes.π€ Ones that are extinct likely won’t ever get active again. Hmm, still snowing, but not as bad now.π€π³

Yep, spring will arrive soon,π maybe by the end of the week.ππΊ Going to be cold for a couple days anyway.π¬π₯Ά They have put more restrictions on us too.π But we can still go for a walk, so that’s good.ππΆββοΈπ²πΆββοΈπ² But they closed the borders of our province, people not allowed in or out.π€ Hospitals are full so they have to ship people to other hospitals hundreds of km away.π³

team Jasper. I’m guessing you bring that bear spray with you when you walk to the river, but it seems like the bear would have to be awful close for you to use it, and at that point, it seems like the bear is too close…

Yes, I always bring the bear spray. It sprays up to 30 feet on a calm day or with the wind, but it’s most effective at 10 to 15 feet. Then it will immobilize a bear for 20 to 30 minutes giving lots of time to get away. Even if the first shot doesn’t get a direct hit it should stop the bear so the second shot will be more accurate. There is 2 and a half shots in a canister. Not sure why they don’t make it 3 shots.

I did not it was that powerful, and that is odd that it comes with 2.5 shots.
I think I remember a clip from the attack on the capitol where one of the protesters asked another person if he had the bear spray ready…

This bear spray is made in Colorado but is not legal in the US, though it is barely legal here so we can buy it. But we need a police check and have to sign papers for various things, one that we would never use it on people. It can have permanent effects on people like blindness, restricting breathing leading to death. It’s strong stuff, like extra strong pepper spray though made differently. It’s only legal to carry in areas where bears are known to be. Though I imagine some people wouldn’t follow the rules on that.

I never realized it was so powerful…

Needs to be to stop those big critters. But apparently it leaves no lasting harm to the bears.

I guess it just buys you some time to get out of the bear’s way!

Yep, that’s the idea, and I sure wouldn’t be hanging around to see if it actually lasts 20 minutes like it’s supposed to!

no; that’s a good incentive to get out of there!
