For a smile as wide as a country sunrise
Good morning and Happy Sunday to everyone! Such a beautiful morning, we had a bit of rain overnight, not a lot but it made everything smell so fresh and nice. Now the sun is shining once and it’s warm so it should be a very nice day. At least until the thunderstorms come in this afternoon. A strong south wind has begun to blow which is bringing in some nice warm temps for us today and for the next few days as well. I’m looking forward to that. Muffin is enjoying the warmth too, she gets to have her window open now. Well, my bird feeders are very quiet now, I’m only using one feeder now for the birds, and one for the squirrels. It’s nesting season now so the birds have moved out to quieter forest locations to raise their young.
They will be back again, but they will be gone for a month or two. Some will likely show up now and then as they look for some easy food so they can relax a bit. Some birds are still regular, like Baxter and Benson, looking for extra food to bring back to their young who are likely getting bigger and hungrier now. Same with the chickadees, there are two pair of them around, but they only stop in a couple times a day. There are still a few chipping sparrows and white-throated sparrows, plus one song sparrow and one Harris’ sparrow. Plus some grackles and cowbirds who can move on anytime now, I wouldn’t mind. I will write about them soon in another bird of the day post, I have 3 or 4 more birds to do now for that series.
It’s just so nice to sit outside with my coffee in the morning, listening to all the birds singing, watching the squirrels “playing” together. Jasper was here eating peacefully and Leap showed up. Leap is another new squirrel that has longer than normal hind legs, quite noticeable and he can really jump. He was on the railing, Jasper on the deck. They chattered at each other, then did their angry squirrel dance, then they ran at each other.
Jasper went up and Leap came down, but somehow they missed each other, so it started over and Jasper came down but Leap stood his ground, momentarily. A short “discussion” took place and Leap took off running as fast as he could with Jasper right behind him. They went a long ways and never came back. After they left Sam’s head came poking over the top step. I told him it was safe so he came and had his breakfast. Until Jasmine showed up. Then he took off running, with Jasmine right behind him. They never came back either. So Skamper came and had his breakfast. And I enjoyed my coffee while talking to him. I hope you all have a wonderful Sunday and God bless!
Steve and Muffin.
