Good morning and Happy Friday! It’s wet again and a bit cooler, but not as bad as what was originally forecast. Out west, however, they are certainly getting some cold weather. I’m glad it’s staying there on the prairies though. It is going to be a bit on the cool side tomorrow however, and we are in for a lot more rain today and tomorrow as well. There’s a robin singing right now, he has been singing for more than 3 hours already and it sounds so nice. A white-throated sparrow is singing as well and a purple finch. But none are close, it’s quiet around here. Sure makes a difference when not feeding the birds.
The blue jays have been here all morning, they actually first showed up before 5am. I got up at 4:40am. I don’t normally, but I woke up and I was thoroughly awake, so there’s no point staying in bed when that happens. There are 2 male ruby-throated hummingbirds coming to my feeder now. They don’t get along too well, so one has to sneak in whenever the other isn’t around. I hope Bert the bear doesn’t discover the hummy feeder. Bears do like sweet things. My poor flowers. First they get munched on and stepped on by Bert and some didn’t survive that. Now with all this rain they are getting rather…flattened…and drowned. They are in good well draining containers though so they should be okay once the sun shines again.
The cherry tree next door is coming into full bloom now but the flowers are already falling off every time we get a heavy downpour. The flowers are really drooping this morning on that tree. My landlord’s apple tree is starting to bloom as well. Amazing it’s still alive. It has rotted so bad it’s gone almost right through the tree. But it’s still producing a lot of flowers. The cedar waxwings should be arriving soon, they always do when the apple tree blooms. They love eating those flower petals, must be good tasting and nourishing food for them. It doesn’t hurt the flowers or apple production. With the heavy clouds and rain I likely won’t get pictures of them this year.
I did get some really nice pics last year though. But I always figure that pics can be upgraded in one way or another, by just getting a better picture, or getting the birds in a different/unusual pose. Like hanging upside down, which does happen, and I missed getting. The bird moved a bit as I took the picture so it got blurry. Happens sometimes. And it only hung upside down the one time. Naturally. It’s going to be hard getting any new pics for a while, so I will be using some older pics, but they will still be different than ones you have seen, even though the birds and other animals will be the same. However, some new ones are likely to pop in here and there, like today. Have a fantastical Friday everyone and God bless!
