Steve and Muffin’s Wildflowers #18.

Hello everyone! Today’s wildflower is the “northern bedstraw”. These are very tiny flowers about 1/8 to 1/4 inch (3 to 6mm) across, but they form a large cluster of flowers at the top of a square stem. There are several different types of bedstraw, we have at least 2 in this area, but this one is the most common and produces the largest cluster of flowers. They bloom from June to August in open woods, woodland edges and fields in partial shade to sunny locations. It is a native wildflower and grows up to 3 feet (90cm) tall. It has long leaves in whorls of 4 along it’s stem and that is an easy way to identify this species. Bees and butterflies enjoy these wildflowers. They can be found across Canada and most of the US except from Nebraska to Louisiana, across to N. Carolina. In some parts of the northeast US it is considered a noxious weed. I hope you all have a beautiful day and God bless!

  1. Just like the one I helped this mrng. I forgot the name of that flower, almost it looks like this, sadly it looks sick, the soil got hard and I removed the plant from its pot and mixed the sand and replanted it. Hopefully it should restore back. These flowers are very tiny and large In group and so beautiful 😍✨ Have a lovely day Steve πŸ₯³

    • These flowers are very nice and look great with other flowers too. They are a nice flower for a rock garden or wildflower garden. Hope yours feels better now,😁 make sure it gets enough water,πŸ€” and if you can get some used coffee grounds, mix that in there too, it’s great fertilizer for plants.πŸ˜ƒβ˜• Have a great evening Simon!πŸ˜ƒπŸ˜Έβ˜•β˜•πŸŒ™

      • Problem is, here tea lovers population is high πŸ˜‚ and the coffee lovers often stick with coffee powders, which makes it hard to find 😁 feels better to see the plant, let’s wait few more days I’m sure it will be back again 😎

  3. As I spend more time walking trails at two nearby nature parks, it is always a joy to see different wildflowers bloom as others take the rest of the season off.
