Steve and Muffin’s Wildflowers #27.
Hi everyone! Today’s wildflower is the “prairie fleabane”, also called “Daisy Fleabane”. We also have the “annual fleabane” which is a larger plant, large leaves and is hairy. This one is not hairy or just lightly hairy on stem and leaves. It also has small leaves. This is a native wildflower, but is annual, meaning it needs to reseed itself each year, it doesn’t grow up from the roots each year. It looks like a mini daisy, with flowers only 3/4 inch (18cm) across. And they have many more petals, up to 100 of them. They will grow in partially shaded to sunny locations in fields and along roadsides. Many people consider these to be a nuisance weed. But they truly are a beautiful flower and a great addition to rock gardens or wildflower gardens, they don’t need any special soils. They bloom from June to September, though in our area it’s mainly June and July. They can be found across Canada and the US except for some SW states. I hope you all have a great day and God bless!

Walking to the river 2 days in a row was a bit much I think. Plus all that crawling on the ground, and lying flat on my stomach and trying to get up again. I was being so careful, moving slow to get close to this one dragonfly. Thought the ground was level but I knelt into a hole which made me go forward almost on top of the dragonfly. He flew away. No picture.
