Good morning and Happy Saturday everyone! It’s a beautiful, sunny morning here, though a bit chilly, it was just 50F (10C) earlier, but it is starting to warm up a bit. Had to wear my jacket sitting on the deck this morning. And it’s going to be cool for a few days but warm up again by mid week. I certainly hope so, otherwise some plans will be disrupted. Oh well. It was perfectly still this morning, that strong wind of the last couple of days was finally gone. There are quite a few different species of birds singing this morning too which is nice.
My vireo is still singing, plus some warblers, the chestnut-sided warbler, yellow-rumped warbler, a phoebe, chickadees, goldfinches. Those last 2 were probably looking for some food too. The gulls were here for their breakfast. A loon flew overhead while another loon called from the lake and another answered from the river. Can’t get better wilderness pleasures than that. I hear them almost daily calling from the river, but I have only seen a loon down there once this year so far. Guess I’m just going at the wrong time of day. But going early is not the best idea with the bears around.
There is one bear, a big one, that is here nearly every night now. He comes up on the deck each time and looks around, then leaves without finding food. I keep hoping that will discourage him, but it doesn’t seem to be working. Bears have a great memory, and he remembers finding food here before, so he keeps coming. He was even sleeping out here Thursday morning, just on the ground below the deck. And he has been around right during the day a couple of times, while I was out for a walk. At least if he’s here, it’s safe for me out walking. If it stays sunny I will head down to the river later.
There are so many places to sit down there that are quiet and so peaceful. Aside from the 2 benches, there are many rocky areas with perfect places to sit and enjoy the calm solitude of the moment. Or sitting higher on a hill where the moss is thick and soft, or having a thick layer of pine needles to sit on and overlook the river. Truly beautiful wilderness solitude. I’m going to introduce a few other wilderness solitude locations in the coming weeks as well. The squirrels and chipmunks are here for their breakfast too, and getting a bit noisy. Only the chipmunks were here earlier. Some fun times to share on Tuesday. Have a beautiful weekend everyone and God bless! (😺4 days.)
