For a smile as wide as a country sunrise
Hi everyone! Today’s wildflower is the “common mullein”. This is not a native wildflower but an introduced species from Europe. Some consider it a terrible weed, others really like it. I like it myself, and so do bees and butterflies. That makes it a good flower to have around, and it’s not invasive like other introduced wildflowers, staying mainly to areas where nothing else wants to grow, such as gravel pits and other waste areas like roadsides and railways with very poor soil and dry conditions. It seems to prefer sun but will grow in partly shaded areas. It is literally found all over North America. It blooms from July to September and can grow up to 7 feet tall with very thick strong stems and very large leaves that feel somewhat like flannel. The first year only produces leaves, the second year brings out the flower stalk. The flowers are very bright yellow but small for such a large plant at only 3/4 inch (18mm) across.
Kind of an odd, but interesting, wildflower. Have a wonderful day everyone and God bless!

That’s what I think too, and these wildflowers generally grow where nothing else will grow, so I like them and so do insects. That’s a good thing right there.ππΊπππ¦ππΈπ

Looks odd too, may be nature has its own way to decorate it’s places with such flowers π

Yep, these flowers usually grow where nothing else will grow, so they have a purpose.π
