For a smile as wide as a country sunrise
Good morning everyone and Happy Sunday! It’s a rather dull, cloudy morning here, along with some smoke. I heard some thunder earlier too but it wasn’t close by, sounded like it was down over the lake. During the night I woke up and Muffin was meowing. That’s her victory meow, which means she has caught a mouse. So I get up, I don’t want her to eat the mouse, so I have to get it and toss it outside. She’s so happy that I got up so she puts the mouse down for me to look at…and the mouse ran away, under my desk. Great. I go back to bed hoping she will get it again.
At 3:15 I hear her victory meow again. I get up again. She puts the mouse down, all happy and I praise her and pet her which she just loves after catching a mouse. Then I go to pick it up and it runs away again. Muffin is usually very quick at killing mice, she doesn’t play with them. Great. Back to bed I go. I don’t know if she caught it again or not, never heard anything more, but I was kind of tired so I might have slept through it. But if I did, then she ate the mouse, which I don’t like. Sigh.
Then this morning I go for my shower and what do I see? A spider in the shower with me. It’s 2 and a half inches long, which is rather large, too large for me. I don’t like spiders of any kind, but when they get that big and larger, then they are just completely scary. No, I didn’t take a picture. When I spider is inside, he gets squashed, which is what happened with this one. But, this one produced a horrible stink when I squashed it. Never had that happen. Afterwards I come out to the living room and Muffin is looking outside, with her ears back. She’s scared.
That can only mean one thing. A bear. Sure enough there was a bear looking for apples on the smashed up apple tree. This one isn’t the big bear that pushed the tree down, but it’s bigger than that little bear that used to come around. It was a very nice looking healthy bear. Nice shiny black fur, well fed, about 300 pounds. He grabbed branches in his mouth and snapped them off so easily. Now this is 6:30am, so it’s daylight, although dull because of the clouds. But I figured I could get a nice picture of this bear. So I got my camera, and heard footsteps. Rats, he was on the deck already. I decided to forget about a picture right then and hoped he would go back down to the apple tree, but he didn’t.
The gulls and chipmunks were waiting impatiently for their food. But I really didn’t want to go outside until I was sure the bear was gone. I saw him walking away, then heard the neighbors dog down the street start barking, so I knew the bear was over there now. Safe to feed my critters. Now I’m nervous about going out on the deck in the early morning again. It has been so nice to sit out there with my coffee. But I think that will stop now. Sigh. Can’t go walking, can’t sit on the deck. This is getting bad. Inside there’s deer mice, which are very bad critters to have around, and large spiders. Sigh. Oh well, gives me something to write about! And the sun continues to shine, even on a cloudy day. It’s still a beautiful summer morning. Have a wonderful day everyone and God bless!

A spider, a bear, a mouse on one day ! Even small spiders freak me out ! Best to be careful…sleep well ! ๐ท๐ป๐ญ๐ด๐บ๐

Yep, those deer mice are dangerous critters, I don’t like having them inside! Hopefully tonight will be uneventful.๐ณ๐๐บ๐๐๐ด

Is there nothing you can do to discourage the visiting bears?

No, I wish there was. I was told to just make sure there’s no food around and hopefully they will stop coming. I liked how they put in the word “hopefully”.

Kinda difficult when you have fruit trees and bird feeders.

Yes, they just told me to stop feeding and pick all the apples so they don’t attract bears. But the apples were not ripe yet. So they said they can’t do anything if I won’t do that. Sigh.

You make me laugh lol โฆ a spider ๐ท in the shower ๐๐ I would be the same wayโฆ
My daughter actually makes me check the bathroom for spiders before she will go in ๐๐
I live in the country – it happens lol
Oh my gosh the bears just love your deck ๐ฎ Yikes ๐ณ
We are not smoky anymore โฆ the fire close to me is under control – they have a grasp on itโฆ
And the Dixie fire is still raging but is few hours from me
Lol the universe wants you to be all safe and sound insideโฆ no bears / no covid / no smoke โ๏ธ๐

Yep, I just don’t like spiders, big ones anyway.๐ฌ๐ท๐ธ Yes, country locations mean lots of different things, like spiders and other bugs getting in. Plus other things too.
Yep, bears just keep coming,๐๐ป๐ณ two big ones now which is not nice, especially when they come during the day, makes it dangerous to be outside anytime!๐ฒ๐พ๐ป
Glad they have that one fire under control for you.๐ There is none close to us right now, but still a lot of fires.
I still get smoke inside,๐ณ๐ฅ I need to have my windows open or I would suffocate, I don’t have air conditioning. So it’s just as bad inside as outside. But it will likely come to an end soon, by winter anyway.๐๐๐ฅ๐

Oh no!! Thatโs not good having windows open, I know you have to for air circulation but that air is also not good for you to breath.
You could always get a portable ac or a swamp cooler ?? If you able
But you also in Canada so you wouldnโt probably use that often lolโฆ it would be same in Maine
There is NO WAY I would go without AC where I am ๐ฎ๐ณ I would die lol

Yes, that’s true, that smoke is not good for our health๐ฒ and sometimes the smoke is so thick it’s hard to see across the street.๐ฌ๐คฏ But having AC here is such a waste, so many summers I wouldn’t need to use it at all,๐ other summers maybe for a week at most.๐ค If there was some storage in this apartment I might consider getting a portable unit.๐ค
Yep, it makes more sense where you live.๐๐๐

They have some really cool portable acโs now – have you looked? Some are pretty cheap. And small.
I can not imagine not having ac!! OMG!! Lol

Yep, I have checked, but I still have to store it somewhere, and there is no storage in this apartment. I don’t want to just leave it sitting around when I only might use it for a week or 2 at most. And now our temps are only in the high 60s to low 70s during the day.๐ฌ Hot weather is behind us now.๐ We might still get a hot day now and then,๐ but nights still remain cool.๐ฅถ Basically fall has arrived for us now.๐๐น

Well thatโs true, Canada totally different than California lol – completely need here, even still lol
But even in New England we had AC – you needed it there with summers and humidity ๐
Iโm just an AC person lol
We are still in summer!!!

I probably wouldn’t use it unless the temp went above 90,๐ค because it gets cool at night here so the apartment cools off nicely at night.๐๐ We should still be in summer too,๐ at least until the 15th of August.๐๐

So in the summer – I love the ACโฆ I am hot blooded in the summer ๐๐
But come winter โฆ I like the heat and yearn for it lol
๐คทโโ๏ธ
In summer – perfect house temp would be ummโฆ maybe 78?
And then in winterโฆ we do about 74/75 lol
I am sorta consistent lol โ๏ธ๐โฆ within a couple degrees
What temp do you use? Fahrenheit or Celsius?
LikeLiked by 1 person
I always use Fahrenheit, but I know Celsius too since that’s what we use here in Canada.๐๐
I don’t mind it about 80 inside in summer, or warmer, but if it goes above 85 then it’s a bit too warm, for inside.๐ฅต Outside it’s fine.๐
In winter I like about 74/75 same as you.๐
I just like it warm, we get enough cold weather,๐ฅถ if I want to be cold I just need to step outside for a few seconds.๐

I find it funny most of world uses Celsius. That would just never fly here in the United States. We like our Fahrenheit lol ๐
Lolโฆ I donโt like to be cold either – I like it warm too
With the exception of summer โฆ I love the heat but I want my house cool ๐โ๏ธ I need an escape from heat in summer lol
In winter I need escape from cold – so I like house warm lol โค๏ธ

We liked our Fahrenheit too, when Canada changed back in the 70s, 86% of Canadians were against the change. But our prime minister at the time, the father or our present prime minister, said he didn’t care we were switching anyway. Now, most Canadians don’t even know what Fahrenheit is! But actually, your scientists all use Celsius and the metric system. It would just take the right president to change things. Especially now with climate change which is all measured in Celsius. Hold out as long as you can though!

Well as personal preference I do not like Celsius in slightestโฆ temps sound freezing
I am a โcup half full typeโ so I like the warmer sounding temps โค๏ธ๐
I donโt really have any interest in that metric system the world uses lol
They try to change here back then too – did not work then โฆ I do not think would fly at all.
Ours just feels better โค๏ธโ๏ธ
And I am not currently a scientist lol โฆ so I stay with the things I really like lol ๐โค๏ธ
When I die they can figure that out – but just let me have that ๐โค๏ธImperial โค๏ธโ๏ธ
Plus – I love classic so โ๏ธ
There are a few other countries that stayed imperial also ๐
I would just rather imperial / it makes more sense to me. โ๏ธI donโt really understand yours at all – I have to constantly Google Celsius
So I just give up and do what I love โค๏ธ๐

Yep, I agree, Celsius and metric are both crazy. They did bring in metric at the same time as Celsius and they banned the use of the imperial measure.๐ฌ But they got voted out and the new government repealed that law so imperial could be used again.๐ But it has slowly gone back to almost totally metric now. Only metric is taught in school so those under 40, that’s all they know.๐ค Kind of a sneaky way to do it.๐
I know both but I prefer the imperial, that’s what I was taught in school.๐
Yes, some other countries still use imperial measure, not many though. I use both on my blog because most of my readers use Celsius.๐ณ That way everyone knows what the temp is, I always give Fahrenheit first, then Celsius. Same with other measurements, or I just use imperial.๐โ

Most of time I just talk about thingsโฆ but once in awhile temp comes in – I used to do both, but I only do Fahrenheit now – usually cause Iโm going fast lol
I am Imperial Fahrenheit all the way!!! ๐โค๏ธ
In measurements I only ONLY use mineโฆ because I absolutely am not familiar with yours

I always check my shower stall for spiders before I dip my toe. We’ve not had big spiders but have been visited by some small ones. We’ve never had a mouse in our apartment but Callie goes bonkers when she sees a bug. She is great at catching them. We don’t live in an area where there are bears – whew!
When we lived in Florida, our house backed up to a reserve and we used to see all types of critters – deer, and raccoons mostly. We did see a red fox, a couple of wild turkeys, hawks, and owls. It was a fun place to live except for the occasional snake.

Muffin likes going after bugs too, and those big spiders. She can have the bugs, but I kill the spiders, I don’t want 4 inch spiders running around the apartment! But she does like chasing those big ones, they’re fast!๐ฌ๐ธ๐ป
