Tuesday’s Tails #19.
Good morning everyone! It’s starting off sunny again, like yesterday, but it turned out to be mostly cloudy, and it’s supposed to be like that today as well. But we are supposed to get more rain later today too. Well, time to grab a cup of coffee and see what kind of action has been on the deck lately. I haven’t said much, wanting to leave it all for today instead. Those bears just don’t want to quit for some reason. They’re not finding food, yet they keep coming, at least 3 of them, and I think maybe a fourth has joined them. This one has a hurt paw and he walked mostly just holding it up. I don’t really like that one, a hurt animal can be more dangerous.
Hard to know if it’s a different one though, it could be one of the others, the middle one of the group. And he was around in late afternoon, also not good. There were 2 bears here Sunday night, actually one was late evening while it was still light. He made a bunch of noise out there scaring Muffin, so I quickly closed my door. Must remember to close it earlier now. Like my chipmunks the bears are in a hurry to eat as much as they can before hibernation. I think they can feel an early winter coming too. Another bear showed up last night at 9:30, just when I wanted to get to bed early for a change. Oh well.
Yesterday marked a big day for the sandhill crane migration, which is also early. All our birds seem to be migrating early this fall. I really think that means an early winter. Yesterday I was out trying to get some pics of the blue jays and managed to get some good ones, even though the background isn’t really the best. But they let me stay close by, at least the young ones did, plus Baxter. So that was nice. The young are quite brave and there are 5 of them, plus the 6 adults. The young ones stay around most of the day, guess they don’t really have much else to do, just sit and wait for me to toss out more peanuts, or sunflower seeds, which they like just as much.
Then there’s the chipmunks and squirrels. But more on that tomorrow. Time to get some more coffee and enjoy the sunshine for a while. Have a wonderful day everyone and God bless!

Oh my fav Blue Jays 😍❤️ I can watch them for sometime, so beautiful 🥰.. How did you ? did you used some bear spray to keep them off of your outside 🤔 Too bad, they disturb you much 🧐 anyway they are going to hibernation, that’s a good thing 😁 Stay safe, keep the doors closed. Can’t use bear spray like that to keep them off the deck, it’s only for use on the bear itself. After the spray sits on something for a while, it will actually attract bears.😲🐻 It’s only for a temporary use by spraying the bear.😬🐻
Yes, hopefully they will be gone soon, it depends on when winter arrives. The bears usually wait for a time just before a snowstorm hits so it will cover their tracks going into their dens.🐻😳❄❄

Yes, I take the car now when I go out. Bears are a bad problem all over town, worse than normal. But soon they will be hibernating, but then it will be winter.🐻🥶❄❄

Yes, getting to be more frequent all the time. And our forestry department and police won’t help unless the bear is endangering people. I really don’t want to wait that long.

is this the worst you can remember the bears being around your house?

Yes, definitely the worst by far. I would walk to the river every day, sit down there for 2 or 3 hours, never worry about a bear. At home I would sit on the deck until it was dark, would never even think that a bear would come around. Be on the deck at 4am with my coffee and never see a bear. But there was no food this summer for the bears so they come into town and they don’t have fear of people like they normally would.

That would certainly be nice. One problem though is that once bears find easy food, they don’t usually forget it, so they keep coming.

Steve, I really enjoyed the photos of the Blue Jays. I think your thoughts about an early winter are right on. Too many bears and not enough food to find before hibernation time . . . oh my!

Two of our winter forecasts have agree it will be an early winter this year. Bears that go into hibernation without enough food will often come out earlier in spring and be a problem then, looking for food.😳🙀🐻
