Thursday’s Thoughts #19.

Good morning everyone! It’s a beautiful, sunny and cool morning here today! The blue jays and chipmunks are busy getting their morning supply of food. Rickie, my ring-billed gull, was back this morning too looking for some food, so I took some out for him. I think he likes it now, without the herring gulls around to chase him away, he can take his time and pick up more food. What he left the crows hauled away quickly. They were not satisfied with that however, so they started coming after the peanuts. So I had to chase them away. It’s fun to watch the chipmunks and blue jays fighting for food.

Baxter getting another peanut, he already has one that has been opened, in his throat.

They don’t really fight as such, they just kind of chase each other, but most of the chipmunks stand up to the blue jays, or just don’t even pay attention to them which seems to puzzle the blue jays. There is one blue jay who is the top bird right now. He gets first pick of the peanuts, and he takes his time, making sure he gets the biggest of the bunch. Several of the other blue jays don’t like to wait anymore, so they seem to take turns going down to get big blue, as I like to call him, to chase them.

Then the other blue jays come down quickly, grab a peanut and they are gone. Reminded me of the way the chipmunks would do that with the squirrels. Speaking of squirrels, Freddie has met his match it seems and has been chased away. He does keep trying to come back, but quickly gets chased away. And guess who is doing it? Jasper! He has returned at last. How do I know it’s Jasper? The way he lazily chases the chipmunks.

This is Coffee, doesn’t he have a cute face?

Plus his beautiful color and his tail, which is easy to pick out. Only Jasmine looked like Jasper, no other squirrel did, and it’s not Jasmine. Jasper is a bit nervous around me at the moment, likely because he has been away so long. But that should change as he starts coming more frequently. Guess he came to check on his old territory and found that Slim was no longer here. Maybe Jasmine will come back too. It’s a beautiful morning. Time to put out more peanuts and grab another cup of coffee. I hope all of you have a most wonderful day and God bless!

    • That is so amazing, it seemed to be working good for a while but I have noticed a few people have had to follow again recently. It’s kind of annoying. But I’m glad you’re back!! Thanks Eugenia, when that chipmunk first came around I was out there drinking my coffee, so that was the first name that came to mind! Have a wonderful day!😃😺😻🌞☕☕

  5. Such spectacular pics ! I never knew that Blue Jays would peel one peanut and then take another one…maybe the peeled one was for his mate ! ☕️☕️🙂😻🐿🥜

    • They have a pouch in their throat so they can carry more food. They can put the contents of two peanuts in their throat and then a third in their beak which they then take and hide for a later time. This time of year they hide food for winter use.😀😺🥜🥜 Thanks so much!
