Wednesday’s Wanderings #20.

Good morning to all of you on this beautiful, sunny day! Well, it’s sunny right now, though it isn’t supposed to stay that way for very long. But it sure is nice anyway, with that tinge of autumn coolness in the air. The blue jays and chipmunks are very busy once again. The way they are attacking those peanuts and sunflower seeds out there, one would think that winter was going to arrive tomorrow. Watching them I decided it might be a good idea to get ready for winter too. So yesterday I got my deck nicely cleaned up, stuff put away and moved out of the way to make it easier to shovel the snow this winter.

Red Osier dogwood, just finished it’s second blooming of the year.

Though I still haven’t figured out that “shovel the snow” part. But everything is ready. If the sun stays shining long enough, I hope to get my windows washed today as well. One of the bears was here yesterday morning at 6am, and then again at around 9pm last night, and a little later at just after 10pm. I’m not sure if it was the same one each time, but I don’t think so. One was the bear with an injured paw, I really wish he would stay away. Oh well. Soon the bears won’t be coming around again until spring. That doesn’t really help though, what can I do in the winter?

The sale of the house hasn’t been finalized yet, so I still don’t know if my new landlord will allow me to feed the birds this winter or not. Hopefully I will have my new bird feeder ready to put up on Friday so I can start to feed the birds properly again. The chickadees were waiting for me when I went out with food this morning and, as usual, came to my hand right away. I still enjoy that so much! Oh my, this morning I decided to put out a larger amount of food since there is more action now. So I put out a cup of peanuts for the blue jays and chipmunks, plus a cup of sunflower seeds.

Arrow leaved aster, one of our most common asters.

However, when I went to put out the sunflower seeds, one of the chipmunks came running toward the door. So I quickly shut the door, knocking the cup of seeds out of my hand and it landed inside the apartment and scattered all over the place. None of the seeds went outside. Sigh. Quicker to just get another cup of sunflower seeds to put out and then spend the next half hour picking seeds off my carpet. Things like that happen to me. I am going to start sharing some funny things that happen/have happened to me, such as shopping experiences. You might not believe some of the things that happen to me, but they are true. Anyway, time for more coffee, have a wonderful day and God bless!
