For a smile as wide as a country sunrise
Good morning everyone! It’s a cool morning here today, with a temp of 43F (6C), but it is supposed to warm up to 59F (15C) and be nice and sunny all day. I like the sunny part, a nice break from the rain of the last 3 days and the next 3 days which are supposed to be rainy and much cooler. The end of fall is upon us. There were still 2 chipmunks here for a short time yesterday afternoon once the sun came out. It was Chips and Choco, but they only made a couple trips and stopped. The others have now gone to bed, probably with enough food to last them 2 winters.
I hope that’s not an indication of a long winter. At least it’s not an early winter like they forecast originally. I hope it’s not going to be much snow this winter though. My doctor has made it clear, like my 3 physiotherapists did before, that I am not allowed to shovel snow this winter. Sigh. Too bad Hawaii isn’t part of Canada. Oh well. The chickadees were here first this morning, which is normal, though sometimes the sparrows get here first. That one little guy was landing on me before I had a chance to put food on my hand.
Before I got back inside there were chickadees everywhere, going to each of the feeders. Oddly, the blue jays were late this morning. First time I have put peanuts out there without any blue jays flying down from the trees. Very odd indeed. Oops, the evening grosbeaks are here already, better get some seeds out for them right away. Wow, did they ever start chirping loudly when they saw me come out the door. Hopefully they can get their fill before those pigeons show up.
I need to make another feeder now, one that is pigeon proof, but still big enough to accommodate the evening grosbeaks. I made a small version last winter and it worked good, but this year I need something bigger. So that is my project for today. I should get most of it done today anyway. It’s going to be a bit heavier for hanging though, plus I need to bring it in each night until winter arrives, so that is a tricky part to overcome.
But I have an idea. Muffin usually runs and hides whenever I say “I have an idea”. She seems to think that means disaster is coming. Very strange. I will need to put a stronger hook on that bird feeder “arm” of the pole. That might be a bit tricky. But I have an idea. Poor Muffin, I won’t tell her this time. The sun has not yet risen, but the sky is clear. It’s a beautiful morning. Have a great day everyone and God bless!
Steve and Muffin.
