Wednesday’s Wanderings. #32

Good morning to everyone on this sunny Wednesday! And it’s not as cold this morning, even though it was supposed to be our coldest night so far. But the temp remained at 0F (-18C) which is not so bad. I think the birds are happier too. The evening grosbeaks are back this morning, two dozen of them. Yesterday I had 3 pine grosbeaks in the afternoon, plus 10 common redpolls. I hope they liked what they found and will keep coming back. If they do I know that their numbers will keep increasing, birds do attract other birds of their own species.

Black-capped chickadee.

And they even attract birds of different species too. After all, a busy feeder means a good food supply, so more birds come to check it out. I keep hoping that the crossbills will come around too, then perhaps I could get a picture of them. There are both the white-winged and red crossbills in the area now. Both flocks fly over here every day. Both flocks are about the same size too with about 12 to 15 birds each. It is going to warm up again for about a week and even do some melting on Sunday. Then it will drop back to normal again.

Looks like it will be another winter last year, lots of up and down temps and not much snow. We only have about 10 inches (25cm) of snow on the ground right now, that is not much. The southern part of our province is getting a lot of snow however. We do need more snow however, or it will lead to another dry summer. I don’t usually do much decorating for Christmas, after all, it is just Muffin and I. But this year with things being a bit upside down around here with the sale of the house and not knowing what is happening with me, whether I can stay or not, so I decided to do more decorating and brighten things up a bit.

Red-breasted nuthatch, they like being upside down.

I even have a Charlie Brown Christmas tree sitting on my table. Some of you probably do not know what that means. Simply put, it is a very small, half dead tree that ends up looking beautiful once it is decorated. Mine isn’t looking too bad, but still needs a few more decorations. Well, I guess it’s time for another cup of coffee, am I right? Thank you again for stopping by today. Have a wonderful day and God bless!

    • Yes, Charlie’s tree bent right over to the ground with that bulb. But then the rest of the crew took Snoopy’s decorations of his dog house and transformed that little tree. I still don’t know how they got all those decorations on that little tree.πŸ˜‚πŸ˜ΉπŸŽ„Too late for the “before” pic, maybe an “after” pic though. And mine isn’t real, a large bulb just knocked it over instead of bending it!πŸ˜‚πŸ˜²
