Musings For Monday. #8

Good morning to everyone on this chilly Monday morning! Also, today is a holiday here, it is called Family Day, so, happy Family Day to everyone as well! It is kind of a nice holiday to have, although it is kind of like Valentine’s Day, it should not be just one day a year. If you have a family, you should have family day much more frequently. Families are precious and wonderful treasures, they should never be ignored or forgotten. If you have children, spend some quality time with them, not just one day a year, but as often as you can.

Well, yesterday we woke up to another 9 inches of snow on the ground. On top of what we had already, that is a lot. That gives us 77 inches (close to 2 meters) of snow for this winter so far. And winter is not over yet. It will take a long time to melt all this snow. Going past my path to the river yesterday morning, well, it was gone. Like it had never been there. A little later however, the man with the snowmobile was out packing down the snow again.

Rock maple floor lamp, 1920s.

But somehow I think that last part down to the river will not be walkable until spring now. The snowmobile cannot make it down to that part of the river. Oh well. I will just have to stick to the main path I guess. Once it warms up a little bit more. Too cold today for sure. There was a lot of bird activity yesterday. Quite a few evening grosbeaks, couple dozen anyway and at least 6 pine grosbeaks.

Still not many compared to what I had, but it was nice to see them anyway. There were still around 50 redpolls yesterday as well, plus all the other birds, the chickadees, nuthatches, woodpeckers, blue jays, all their numbers have not changed anyway. That is nice. Plus the window was frost free, so I was able to stand there and watch the birds without going outside. Muffin enjoyed that too.

Various stuff.

Plus she was able to sleep in her patch of sunshine again. Even though it is cold, it is nice to have that sun shining in through the windows. Just thought I would share some oddity pics from around my apartment today. I will be sharing more this week, and talking about the items as well. But today, just sharing a couple photos with you. Time to go out and feed the birds, then off to do some shopping again. Have a wonderful Monday everyone, thank you for stopping by and God bless!

    • Oh my no, much too cold for any melting yet. It is supposed to be milder next week, but still not close to melting weather. That is likely a long ways off yet. Hopefully it will start by mid March.

  2. Sooo jealous! The year before we went to Madison, WS for a year, they had almost two meters of accumulation. Our neighbor there showed us pictures of the drift over his 2.3 meter roof of his lanai. He could have skied from his second floor windows!
Then, the year WE were there, we only had a total accumulation of less than 1/3 meter and a couple of intermediate melts of THAT! 😒
Hey, seems like snowshoes would be a good investment in your neck of the woods. Then you could make the trek to the river without snow machine packing! πŸ˜‰
    More PICTURES of snow!? 😊

    • We don’t get drifting up this way, too many trees and hills to cut the wind. We do get some minor drifting at times, usually on the east side of lakes. Yeah, snowshoeing is a great hobby, wish I could still do it, but my health won’t allow that anymore. Oh my, I’m tired of snow, but there will be more pics yet. I’m hoping for a nice sunny day this week so I can get out for more pics around the area. Perhaps tomorrow.πŸ€”πŸ˜‰πŸ˜Š
