Thoughts For Thursday. #9

Good morning everyone! The sky is that same rich blue this morning and the sun is shining so beautifully! It almost seems like a nice spring day. Looks can be deceiving however. We are back to cold again. Very cold. It was colder yesterday then it had been, but today is colder yet. I got up to a temperature of -20F (-28C). It was a bit of a shock going outside to feed the birds this morning. And all through the night I kept waking up to the booming and banging which comes along with the cold temps.

It is actually the frost in the wood that causes the noise, which can get very loud at times. This is March. It should be starting to get a bit milder, not melting weather, but milder anyway. And it is getting colder instead. Those poor little red-breasted nuthatches, they have to keep stopping their eating to warm up their little feet by sitting down over them. Then it is back to eating again as much as they can before the next break. Chickadees are here too, though not in large numbers like before.

Path through the brush. The snow is about 3 feet deep here.

There are large numbers of redpolls however. No grosbeaks have shown up yet. The blue jays have been here and are now gone. I have not seen any woodpeckers yet either, but I may have missed them. Yesterday the sun was shining so nicely, so I decided to go out in the afternoon to try and get pictures of the birds. I had a couple of birds land on my hand.

But it was so cold out there with that strong north wind blowing, so I was only able to stay outside for 15 minutes. My hand was cold enough by that time. I also had some redpolls land on my head. It should be nicer, though more clouds, on the weekend. So it does not look like I will walk to the river again until next week. But I will share some river pics today from my last walk. Although I did not see or hear anything on my walk to the river, I did see and hear a few birds on the way back, plus two squirrels.

Following the path at the river.

One squirrel was Scramble who was chattering at another squirrel, who was also chattering. There was one lone chickadee, which was kind of odd, and a couple nuthatches. In some ways it had a sort of lonely feel to the walk, yet it was still so beautiful walking through the trees. But it is going to take a long to melt all that snow. Thank you for reading today. Have a beautiful Thursday and God bless!

    • A very happy belated Birthday to you Simon!!🥳🥳🎂🍰🧁🍨🍧🍦🎈🎈🧨🧨🎉🎊🎆🎇🎁 And here I was sure it was March 4, sigh, I’m always behind times! But I’m glad you had a good time and so nice to be outside. There is a strong north wind that has brought in the cold weather, so even the sun can’t bring in any warmth right now. But it is supposed to change a bit on Saturday and be more normal for a few days, then get cold again. March is like that, but no melting yet for quite a while it seems. Enjoy your day!😁😻🍩🍩

      • I never heard about the earthquake!😬🙀😮 That’s terrible! I’m glad to hear you are okay though. I have never experienced an earthquake, and don’t want to either. It is still cold here, very cold day today,🥶🥶🙀 should be a bit nicer tomorrow, but not much. Just too cold to be outside so I did some cleaning inside! Soon time for me to go to bed. Hope you have a nice day!😁🌞☕☕😻🌺

  3. I agree that it seems that the real spring will be late this year…not that I mind it…there is so much snow here…to melt it would take some time to do it…have another cup of coffee…have a fun time with Muffin ! 🙂😻☕️☕️

    • A late spring means a short summer, sigh. Less time to be outside. Oh well, we get what we get. It’s still so cold out there today. Have a great day!😁😻🌞☕☕
