For a smile as wide as a country sunrise
Good morning to everyone on this beautiful Tuesday! Grab a cup of coffee and relax with me for a few minutes. It is mostly cloudy, but the sun is still shining at the moment and it looks so nice out there. It feels great too. I was able to go out and feed the birds this morning and didn’t need to wear my gloves or rush around trying to get back inside as quickly as possible. It is nice to do things more casually out there.
The redpolls were already in the trees chattering away, waiting for me to put fresh seeds on the feeder. The chickadees just started to arrive as I was finishing off and getting ready to come back in. I filled the hanging feeders nice and full this morning too. Yesterday I finally saw the woodpeckers again, so I guess they are here each day, I just don’t always see when they come. There are still at least 2 female pine grosbeaks around.
Something has scared the birds again, right now there are no birds whatever out there. I kind of thought the shrike would have headed north by now. But I guess not. It is too early for any hawks to be back. Speaking of being back, Theodore was around yesterday about mid morning. It is nice to see she has made it through the winter again. She must be getting fed by someone during the winter, I think perhaps the person who lives across the street.
Yes, I know, I keep referring to Theodore as “she”, because she is. I did not know if Theodore was a male or female at the beginning, since the young males look like the females. However, she is a female and I sometimes call her Theodora. Of course, she likely has a different name by the people feeding her. Oh well.
The birds are returning quickly now, redpolls, dozens of them are filling the trees again, and the feeders too. Chickadees and nuthatches are back, blue jays have arrived for the first time this morning. Evening grosbeaks have filled the main feeder totally and are starting on the hanging feeders. It is busy once again. And the chorus of birds out there is amazing. Their songs, chirps and chatter is loud and cheerful. There is still a bit of blue sky out there, but our sun has disappeared.
It is supposed to be a high of 37F (3C) today. I know that is still cold for many of you, but that is the first sign of spring temperatures for us. And milder temperatures are supposed to stay around for the next week or more. Perhaps spring is here to stay now. Time for more coffee. Have a most wonderful day everyone and God bless!

I hope for your sakes that spring is indeed on its way.

Yes, she wasn’t quite so brave though, but I haven’t really seen her since last fall.

Guess she wanted to get out and walk around a bit now that the weather is nicer. Must have a good memory.

She does like those sunflower seeds, and of course peanuts, but I have to break them open for her, she hasn’t figured out how to do that yet. Everyone likes those two things!

Well, recently peanuts have gone up 10% and sunflower seeds 25%, for smaller bags, 10% for large ones (40lb)
