Fabulous Friday. #17

Good morning and Happy Friday everyone! Another week almost gone and another month almost gone with it. Well, it actually did not freeze last night, fantastic! That is what we need to help get rid of this snow faster, nights that stay above freezing. But that snow is still hard out there, except the top inch or so which is soft. But lots more rain is coming this weekend, starting later today.

This one and the top photo are pics of Quirk, my first squirrel.

Hopefully it does not freeze again and the last of our snow could be gone in a few days, except in shady areas back among the trees. It seems a bit odd to have so much snow and yet this morning the robins were singing so nicely. First time this year I have heard them actually sing, though they have chirped repeatedly before. Still, they have not been back very long. There are so many species of birds that should be back now and yet have not returned.

There is going to be a big rush of birds soon. They can only be held back so long, then the urge to migrate just takes over and they start to move north. I am expecting next week to see a large number of different species start arriving. Unfortunately with the path to the river still having too much snow, ice and water, I am going to miss some good photo opportunities this spring. Oh well, cannot do much about that. But I am going to check the river path next week and see how far I can get. Which likely will not be too far.

This one I called Sleepy Sam, he actually fell asleep while eating sunflower seeds, more than once.

There is a low lying wet area near the beginning of the path, and with all the melting snow and all the rain we have had, and going to get, it will likely be impossible to walk through that area. And there is no way around it. But we will see. I am sharing photos of squirrels from over the years today. It is amazing how many different squirrels I have had here.

Some just disappeared, some were chased away by other squirrels, some did not make it crossing the street, some drowned in my landlord’s rain barrels. So there is always a constant change over in the squirrel visitors. It is the same with chipmunks, there has been a lot of different chipmunks since I moved here. Perhaps I will show some of them on Monday.

This is TM, a female who liked to lie down a lot, way more often than normal for a squirrel.

It really does feel like spring now. The birds are busy at the feeders this morning, even though there are not as many now. I will likely have to stop feeding soon since the bears will be showing up looking for food. I will still be able to do some limited feeding this year, if my plan works. I am hoping it does. Apparently bears are awake and starting to move around again. I hope you all have a fabulous Friday and God bless!

    • Yep, bears are out finally, real late this year. None have been sighted in this part of town yet but I’m sure it won’t be long. Raining heavy right now. Good night!πŸ˜ŠπŸ˜»πŸŒ™πŸ˜΄β˜”β˜”
