For a smile as wide as a country sunrise
Hi everyone!
I thought today we would take a look at this photo of a male purple finch. It not only shows off his nice red color, but it also shows the beautiful pattern of his feathers from directly above this beautiful bird. He was on the ground next to my deck so I could just look down on him and get this photo. I love the patterns that can be seen in birds feathers and often we do not see them from above which makes this one so interesting. Hope you enjoy it too! Have a great day and God bless!

Inspiring photo! We seldom experience a bird’s feathered pattern in this way. Steve, thanks for sharing.

But that finch is red, why is it called a purple finch?

That is a good question. Apparently the board that looks after naming birds here in N. America said that all the red colors were used and this bird looks purple in some light conditions, so the name of purple finch comes along. It confuses a lot of people especially those just starting out trying to identify birds. I have seen it in every possible light condition and it still looks red to me.ππ·π¦
