For a smile as wide as a country sunrise
Good morning to all of you on this cloudy Thursday! It did start off nice and clear early this morning and the sun was shining for a little while, but the clouds quickly moved in once again. It is quite amazing, I was up early this morning, at 5am, the birds were singing so beautifully, the gulls were sitting out here waiting for breakfast, and even more importantly Muffin was waiting for breakfast. But here I am writing this and I am late with my morning post.
I really was expecting to have this out at 7am, but it seems like one thing led to another and…I am late. Not that I have to post at a certain time, I just like to do so. And I am trying to get into my new summer schedule, which is harder to do than I thought it would be. Sigh. It was quite nice yesterday even though cloudy. But it was not that real heavy cloud that makes everything so dark and dull. It was brighter kind of clouds. So I went for a walk to the river.
There were a couple fresh signs of bear activity in the area, including one large old log that had been torn apart so the bear could get at the ants inside. There were still a couple ants crawling around. These big black bears love ants, one of their main foods. Ants are very nutritious, though I really do not want to try eating them. I do like eating wild edibles, but I prefer to stay with plants, not bugs. It was nice at the river, not much wind, barely a breeze down there so it was very nice.
The rain we had before did raise the water level of the river though. It is up another 2 feet from last week. It only has another foot to go and it will be at its highest water mark. Several big pine trees are now well out in the river when normally they are about 20 feet from the shore. One part of the trail is underwater now too, but there is a higher path to walk on as well which is good. I always wondered why there was 2 different paths along that section.
I walked further than normal yesterday and one part of the path is now only a foot from the waters edge and if the river level rises any more it too will be underwater, and there is no higher trail in that area. It would still be possible to walk around that section though. Our dam is fully open now to keep the lake level from getting too high. But more rain is in the forecast for tonight, another 1 to 2 inches (25 to 50mm).
That will raise the water level in the river considerably, easily another 1 to 2 feet (30 to 60cm). I met Scramble on my way back and gave him some peanuts. He seemed to be quite happy with his treats and began carrying them back home right away. It has gotten very windy but it is also getting brighter out there so maybe I should try for some more pictures. Thank you for stopping by, have a wonderful day and God bless!

Hmm, the sun wakes up before me now.ππ And so do the birds, but they have to wait for their breakfast until I get up.ππ€ Yep, no flooding here, the water rises in the river and overflows its banks a bit, but just up in this area, further down river it doesn’t get affected much because the river gets much wider. I am being careful, really I am. Enjoy your night Simon!πβοΈβπ΄π΄
