Looking At Insects. #2 Hornet.

Hi everyone! Well, yesterday I told about my close encounter with a Bald-faced Hornet. Today I am showing pictures of this fascinating creature. This hornet is actually a type of wasp, related more to the yellowjackets. These hornets build a paper nest, usually high in a tree and their colonies can have thousands of individual workers.

They are black with white markings giving them a kind of skeleton appearance. At least that is the way I look at it. They can sting numerous times which can leave a large lump afterward. It is best to stay far away from these hornets. Hope you enjoy its picture. Have a great day and God bless!
