Coffee On Wednesday. #11 Country Pleasures.

Good morning on this cloudy and rainy Wednesday! It is also very cool and windy which makes it a perfect morning for lots of coffee! Well, to be honest, most mornings are perfect for coffee. But I digress. It is also a perfect day to think about country pleasures, and you do not need to live in the country to enjoy some of these country pleasures.

Spotted Coralroot, one of our wild orchids.

Some of these things can be found most anywhere, perhaps just in a different look, such as with flowers. You may not have the same flowers, but there will be flowers just the same. This list is just a few of my country pleasures which I enjoy.

Starting with my little chipmunk friends which indeed bring some great pleasure to me on a daily basis during the summer months, usually from April until the end of September. Then there are the squirrels, they can be a bit noisy but they still bring pleasure too. The squirrel on the bottom right is Copper, because of his beautiful tail.

Walking along the forest path to the river is something that truly brings a great deal of pleasure as well as peace of relaxation. Plus it gives the opportunity to see so much of nature up close with the beauty of various wildflowers and there are so many different species, some small, and some that are larger.

Plus so many different colors to enjoy. Down at the river there are different species of ducks to see, year round, on the river. In summer we have the huge White Pelicans that enjoy spending time on the river and sitting on the rocks along the shore.

I could sit there all day and take pictures of these majestic birds. Sometimes they will come in along the shore quite close to where I sit. Perhaps they are trying to figure out what I am or what I am doing with that small one eyed box I keep pointing at them. Then, of course, there are the many beautiful and interesting insects that I am really enjoying this year.

Orange-belted Bumblebee.

One of my favorites is the little Orange-belted Bumblebee. I have a lot of pictures of them now and I am still trying to get a good pic of them while they are flying. I do have a few, they are not nice and clear, but I keep some of them anyway. And there are so many other birds, besides the water birds at the river, that I certainly enjoy and they bring such pleasure year round as well.

And there are so many different species that show up around here during the time that I feed the birds. This spring there were some new ones for me and I was able to get some beautiful photos of them too, something I found to be exciting and a real country pleasure. Those country pleasures, whether in the country or in the city, can bring such joy into our lives.

And I am certainly thankful that I can enjoy these simple country pleasures. Thank you all for stopping by today, I truly appreciate each and every one of you that take the time to read my posts each day. Have a most wonderful day everyone and God bless!

  2. All things bright and beautiful,
    All creatures great and small,
    All things wise and wonderful:
The Lord God made them all.

    Each little flow’r that opens,
    Each little bird that sings,
    He made their glowing colors,
    He made their tiny wings.

The tall trees in the greenwood,
    The meadows where we play,
    The rushes by the water,
    To gather every day.

He gave us eyes to see them,
And lips that we might tell
    How great is God Almighty,
Who has made all things well.

    • Well, right now we don’t have very many either since I don’t feed in summer anymore. But once fall arrives hopefully there will be plenty as I begin feeding again. We live in kind of a “wild” area which also helps.😊😺
