The Investigators, Inc. Mystery of Avina. Chapter 17. Who?
“What do you think Chung?”, Baldwin asked. “I am not sure, he was without medication for a long time and given a medication that would help bring back that ‘nowhere’ disease,” Chung answered, “he needs more rest, but with Avina still out there, that will be impossible for him. He must go after her, or he will not rest.” “Yes, I agree,” said Baldwin, “but will that complicate matters?” “It very well could,” said Chung, “he must be watched carefully.”
Well, after a month of rehab I was finally cleared to go ‘home’, well, Baldwin’s home, since our chateau was completely destroyed. But Baldwin is having it totally rebuilt, the way it was. Fortunately we have lots of photos of the whole place. Plus there is a surprise coming for Kat and I as well, but Baldwin would not say what it was and there is one area outside with high walls that we are not allowed to see just yet.
Well, here I sit, trying to figure out our next move. So far Avina has killed Susan, Cassie, Bellamy and John. Benson lived but he may not be able to rejoin our active team membership, however, I am sure we can find things for him to do anyway. He has a lot of knowledge he can share with all of us for one thing. Jake has asked to join our team but his legs may never be the same again.
Right now he is in a wheelchair but remains very positive. His skills do not require him to come with us anyway, between Jake and Annelie they can help us a lot with those laptops of theirs. Everyone else is doing well now and Rock said he was definitely coming along on our next chase. Annelie and Krissy agreed with that. But where do we look for Avina? She could be anywhere is this world right now.
Annelie has been trying to find any information she can but came up with nothing so far. Now Jake has begun checking with his contacts to see if he can find any info that might help us. For now then we must sit and wait. As I was having my early morning coffee, before anyone else was awake, my phone rang. I did not recognize the number but answered anyway.
“Hey Steve, guess who?”, said the voice. I could not believe it at first, but it was John. “We thought for sure you were dead John,” I said, “how did you survive?” “I was at a side exit when you sounded the alarm to run so I got out quick,” he explained, “and I wanted everyone to think I was dead. It is amazing how much information a dead man can find.” I chuckled, maybe he was right.
“What did you find out?”, I asked. “Avina is in Argentina, planning something but I do not know what,” he began, “so I went there myself to see what I could find out. I made friends with one of her security guards, apparently he does not like her too much, and one night he was drunk and I was able to get a lot of info out of him.” He then told me all about the place she lives at right now and while he talked I drew out a rough sketch of the place.
The electric fence around the place is the toughest part but we should be able to dig under it. Then there are all the video cameras outside and inside, except in the basement since she thinks there is not way into the basement. But there is an old way in it seems and it should not be hard to find. And it is in a blind spot for the cameras too which will help us.
When everyone came for breakfast I told them what I had found out. “Are you sure about trusting John?”, asked Baldwin, “it may have been him that led you into that trap in Norway.” “Possibly, but I doubt it, the cats checked him out carefully and said he could be trusted,” I said, “and I believe him too.” “When do we go?”, asked Rock.
“Not so fast,” I said, “this time we will do things differently. Only some of us will go this time, we do not want to give Avina another chance to kill all of us at once. And again, it is strictly a volunteer job, if you do not want to go, it will not be held against you. This is not a regular PI case where everyone is required to join in.
The cats can only come if their human allows it, I know Muffin will be coming.” MC looks at Carine and Storm looks at Angel. They both smiled and said yes, they can go. So I have the 3 cats for sure. But everyone said yes to coming along, so I picked my team and we were off to Argentina that day.

Hey, at least John survived! I suspected he might! He’s like the cats 🐈 😻 nine lives and such… so what’s the plan this time? Are you going with John’s idea? You might want to tweak it a bit just in case he can’t be trusted! You still have Kats poisoning and your nowheresville episode to consider!🤔🙄

John does have a habit of coming back to life alright! We will follow his suggestion and dig under the fence to get in the property, after that we will need to make some quick decisions. We have 3 different plans to go with this time depending on the exact layout of the place. Kat is not coming on this one, I only picked 5 team members to come with me and left 5 at home. Plus I have the cats as well. I wanted to keep it small this time, something Avina won’t be expecting. Hopefully I won’t go back to nowhere just yet…🤔👩😾😾😾🕵️

That’s good! You need to flexible and have alternatives in case the plan goes awry!! Maybe Chung can give you some extra medications to have at the ready in case you begin to relapse??😬😳 Then the team members can help right away!!

Yes, we are going to make sure we get this done right, I hope anyway. But Avina is much like John, she always seems to get away. Perhaps she will be around for a long time! I can only take the medication at regular intervals, if I take too much it could make things worse. But the team will be watching me and take me out of there if any problems arise.🤔👩🕵️

So the river still has 8 feet to drop before it reaches normal levels again?

Yep, and unless we get a dry fall it just won’t happen before winter.

That could be bad for ice making!😬 if the levels keep falling after freeze up. The ice could collapse!

Yes but you just mentioned the ice roads and they use those to reach the oil fields in the winter time.

Wah! I caught up! And wow still a lot of death in the Investigator series. So fun reading that Norway is part of the story hehe. Your writing have gotten more amazing than the last time I’ve been here 😍

Here is a couple of extra bits of news. Sigurbjorn is from Iceland and Kat, my wife, made her my personal bodyguard. Sigurbjorn is in love with me but I don’t know it, but Kat does. Did you know that I am married to Kat and Jennifer (who is Kat’s twin sister)?🤔🕵️

No, not legal, but it’s kind of complicated. I’m actually only married to one of them at a time. I’m married to Kat but her twin sister Jennifer fills in for her when there is something dangerous in order to keep Kat safe for me. But to fool any enemies that might do some checking, Jennifer becomes Kat officially so that all records, including medical and dental are changed to reflect Jennifer as being Kat. So it looks like Jennifer is Kat and legally at the time I am married to Jennifer. Confused? It is complicated, but it does work. Jenny and I put on a good show in public, but in private we keep our distance. Now Carine and I were actually married, legally, at the same time as I was married to Kat. But that’s another story.😂😹🙄

Oh my. That one is a long story, I will try to make it short. John and Kat once worked together to kill me with a drug we called the Nowhere drug. It did not work, so John tried again with a variation of the drug developed by his friend and they gave it to me. This time it took my memory away and would finally make me go crazy and kill myself. Carine found me half starved and dirty and felt sorry for me. She took me home and helped me. She was the member of a gang in Paris so did not want to go to the police about me. She got out of her gang, they wanted to kill her, but a couple of them helped her out by getting me a new identity so we could get married which would make it harder for the gang to find Carine under a different name. Then we moved to a small town which was close to where I actually lived. Some of the team came to the bakery where Carine worked, and had Muffin with them. Muffin smelled my scent on Carine and so they found me. Carine and I had no intimate contact because I kept having these dreams of a woman, so Carine felt I must be married or had a girlfriend. But we did fall in love, something that left me when my memory returned, although I still remembered Carine. Everyone, including Kat and Muffin wanted Carine to join the team. Whew, it was a much longer story. So, since my identity was not real, the marriage was not real either and was legally ended.

It seems like John is a cat with nine lives! He always comes back! I am not taking many along this time, I am not giving Avina another chance to kill us all at once. Only a hand picked few are coming.🤔👩😾😾😾🕵️
