For a smile as wide as a country sunrise
Good morning and Happy Saturday to you all! It is a very wet morning here with cloudy skies, light rain and a temperature of 63F (17C). It is a good morning to sit inside, drink coffee and dream of a nice sunny, summer morning sitting by a lake.
I love to sit down by a lake early in the morning as the sun is rising over the trees. The birds are really starting to wake up at that time even though many are awake much earlier. The birds sing so beautifully from the trees. Tree sparrows, which are usually abundant by lakeshores, are singing their wonderful summer song.
I could sit here listening to them for hours. Tree swallows fly low over the calm water in search of insects, a pair of common loons sit quietly on the calm lake, each one with a baby on its back. A kingfisher makes a noisy arrival to sit on a branch of a tall birch tree.
Suddenly it plunges into the water below making quite a splash and up it comes holding a small fish in its beak and off it flies to another branch to eat its newly acquired breakfast. The ripples it made on the water soon disappear and all is calm again. Lily pads sit motionless on the water, some with little water bugs sitting on them.
I see a beaver swimming quietly past heading back home after a night of feasting on leaves in the small bay to my right. There is a lot of action beside a small lake early in the morning. And when it is calm there seems to be even more activity. I walk along the shore to a sandy beach where I see a spotted sandpiper walking along looking for his favorite insects.
The way they run around makes them look a bit nervous, but they are not. Soon he flies off to another spot further down the shore. The birds are really singing now. It is the height of summer and there is so much life all over. A little squirrel comes scampering across the grass to me looking for some food. I give him a peanut and off he goes happy as could be.
Morning lakes. A real summer country pleasure. That is solitude. Something I have enjoyed so many times over the years. But right now, just a dream. Even a dream can be a real country pleasure. Anyone ready for more coffee? Have a wonderful weekend all of you and God bless!

Steve, I thoroughly enjoyed all of the solitude described. I could enjoy the lake setting as well. Morning time is always the best!

Yes, I certainly agree with you Sheree! Even a smaller pond can be very relaxing and stress relieving. I hope you are having some better weather over there, and less fires.

Thanks for sending the link Eugenia! I have not been able to get to your sites for more than a month. It always comes up “oops, that site cannot be found” or, “that site no longer exists”. So now I finally made it there! Could you send me a general link to your sites? Then I can bookmark them so I can get to them.ππΊπ·ββ
