Midweek Coffee Chat. #20

Good morning to everyone! It is a beautiful autumn morning here at Steve’s Country. The sun is shining brightly, the yellow and gold leaves are glowing against the blue sky. The birds are busy hauling away peanuts and eating sunflower seeds. Blue jays were the first birds here this morning, usually it is the chickadees, but they were not far behind the jays.

The nuthatches showed up third and Grover the grackle was fourth. Evening grosbeaks showed up next, but a pigeon showed up and scared them away. They have not been back since and that was an hour ago. Muffin has been having a hard time settling down this morning. I am sure the bear was here overnight, perhaps twice, or two different bears.

That got Muffin upset, and scared. I did not bother looking since they would likely be gone by the time I got to the window anyway. There is no food out there at night so a bear just comes and sniffs around a bit, then leaves. It does not take long. But this morning Muffin would not settle down for her morning nap, she wanted to stay with me all the time.

That usually means she is scared. Something was moved around on the deck during the night as well. It woke up Muffin and I due to the noise of it. Muffin looked, I did not. This morning when I went out to feed the birds, nothing had changed out there. Everything was in its place.

I do not understand how that could happen, considering how much noise there was out there. But perhaps my nightly “guest” was back again. Someone was on my deck the other night, and that was a human for sure. The nightly “guest” that normally shows up each summer, but was missing this year, likes to come and make a lot of noise and then leaves quickly.

So that could be why nothing moved out there. I was just too tired last night to get up and look. Oh well. No damage, no problem. The birds look so nice sitting in the trees with those colored leaves surrounding them. True autumn beauty. True country pleasure. Look carefully at the one blue jay pic, he is catching two seeds! I hope you all have a wonderful day and God bless!

  3. Wondering if it is legal to shoot a bear with a harmless bb? Might make them think twice about returning; just don’t injure by aiming for the head.
A human nightly guest!? Time for a security camera and notify the authorities.
    Be safe, my friend.

    • A bb would hardly be felt by a bear on his thick hide covered with equally thick fur. Their head is the only tender spot they have, but that would just make it angry, bears get angry easily, so even if it felt it elsewhere, the same result would happen. However, discharging a bb gun in town limits is illegal up here.
I have thought about a camera, though they are easy to steal or break. But it might be worth a try. I have called the police before,๐Ÿ‘ฎ but they really can’t do anything except drive by a couple times for a few nights and this nightly visitor has no set schedule unfortunately, or I would stay up and wait for him, or her. ๐Ÿ•ต๏ธThe only regular thing is this person always comes between 12:30 and 1:30am., but which night is anyone’s guess. ๐Ÿ™„๐Ÿค”
