Thursday Thoughts With Coffee. #10 Handouts!

Hello everyone on this nice, though snowy, day! There is not a lot of snow, but the snowflakes are dancing around, swirling and twirling, before finally landing on the deck. It does look very beautiful, though this time of year I prefer to see snow melting, not adding to what we already have on the ground. We did get about 2 inches of new snow from yesterday until this morning, nothing serious, that’s for sure.

And it actually did melt a bit yesterday too. Unfortunately, that meant a slippery deck this morning. But I was ready for that so did not slip and fall this time. That was nice. And…and…I finally did it!! I got a Boreal Chickadee to land on my hand! Not just one, but all 3 of them did it. Plus, I got pictures to prove it too!!

Also, Black-capped Chickadees, several of them, and Red-breasted Nuthatches, at least 2, also came onto my hand for peanuts. And, I got pics of all of them too! The first time it happened was on Tuesday, then yesterday and this morning as well. For someone like me, this is just fantastic! The last time I got pics of the Boreal Chickadee on my hand was the first year I fed the birds. I was just 16 at the time.

That was a while ago. Oh well, it was certainly nice to get more pics of them on my hand, and better ones than that first time. I hope to get even more now that they come easily to my hand without being afraid. I have had both the male and female of all 3 species on my hand, just this morning.

Yeah, I know, I am talking a lot about just one thing. I cannot help it though. I was almost doing a little happy dance out there the first time one of the Boreal Chickadees landed on my hand. The others have been doing it each year, but it is still exciting whenever a bird is willing to trust me enough to come on my hand.
