Wednesday Words. #14

Good morning everyone! Well, it is snowing right now. And snowing. And snowing. And, well, you get the point. We have had 10.5 inches (26.25cm) of new snow so far, and it is still snowing heavily at the moment. Snow mixed with snow pellets. The poor birds are having a hard time getting at the seeds this morning. I have to keep running out there to brush the snow off the feeders for them.

I just came back inside from doing that. All the feeders were covered with snow, the birds trying to dig through it to get at the seeds. But these birds are too small to effectively dig through a couple inches of snow, just does not work good for them. And there are a lot of birds out there. Although the Evening grosbeaks have not come around yet.

But the chickadees, nuthatches, redpolls, hairy and downy woodpeckers, and blue jays are here. There are only 2 blue jays though, I guess the others are staying closer to home today. My landlord told me yesterday that the bears are out now too. He had one at his place, which is right in the middle of town. They will be looking for garbage now since they are coming out so early. That is not so good. Sigh.

I will have to start being more careful with my garbage now. I have shoveled snow 3 times this morning already, more than I should be. But it is easier to do it this way. I am really only doing what is necessary to get safely to the bird feeders. Still too much. I am already worn out and it is only mid morning. My back is complaining terribly too. Welcome to spring! Spring in this part of the country can be very unpredictable.

But it is supposed to warm up on the weekend, even get up to 50F (10C)! If that happens, this new snow should be melted by the middle of next week. Maybe. Melting snow can also be unpredictable around here. But hopefully this will be the last of our snow for this winter so we can get started with some real spring weather. That would be so nice.

But for now we enjoy the new snow. From inside. With an extra large cup of coffee. And dream of spring. Real spring, that is. I always say we have two seasons here. One with snow and one without. Hmm, it is snowing even heavier than before. I guess that means it is time for more coffee.

And I will sort through some more of my pictures, a process that is taking longer than I thought it would. But that is my fault, I should have been doing this right from the start. Oh well, it is a good snowy day project. Have a great day everyone and God bless!
