Wednesday Words, With Coffee! #15

Good morning on this beautiful sunny and mild Wednesday! Grab a cup of coffee and sit with me on the deck for a few minutes. It really is quite nice, even though cool. But with the right jacket and a cup of hot coffee it is easy to enjoy sitting on the deck. Plus, it is directly in the sun right now, so it warms up a lot more on the deck than the surrounding yard.

There are dozens of juncos around now, hopping on the snow and searching through the areas where the ground is now showing, looking for those small seeds from weeds and grass that have fallen through the winter months. And right here I put out small seeds for them, so it brings them in closer for watching them and getting better pictures.

Male Pileated Woodpecker. He is about the size of a crow.

Unfortunately there is still a lot of snow back here, about a foot on the ground still. But there are smaller patches of ground beginning to show closer to the deck and walls of the apartment. The pileated woodpecker is coming regularly throughout the day now. He was just here for his breakfast, but I missed getting any pictures.

I did not notice him soon enough and just as I got my camera focused on him, the crows came along and scared him away. Sigh. Maybe next time. Chloe, one of the Boreal Chickadees, is still coming, but not as often now. I guess she has not found a mate yet. When I went out yesterday she met me right away and fluttered around me so I put out my hand and she landed. Then I put some peanut pieces on my hand, she grabbed one, chirped, and off she flew with it.

Mica, the Red Squirrel, taking a break after being chased by Jasper.

She came back for a second piece a little while later and flew away with that one across the street. That is where they come from. All of my gulls are back now. Sir George and Lady Pearl, Sir Henry and Lady Patricia. It is always so nice to see them in the spring. Not many people like gulls since they can be a bit noisy at times. But they are fun to have around.

Sir George, the Herring Gull.

All pictures today were taken yesterday. The temperature yesterday was a very nice 64F (18C) and it could reach that again today, then it cools off again, to the 30s and low 40s (about 2 to 5C), for the rest of the month. But I will enjoy the nice day and hopefully get some more pictures of the Pileated Woodpecker and others. Have a wonderful day everyone and God bless!
