The Investigators, Inc. The Case of the Mysterious Castle. Chapter 10. Who Is Andrew?

“Stop doing that,” I said to Crystal, “you are scaring Muffin. And there are no ghosts Muffin.” Meow, meow?=It sound just like human Kat, how you explain? “It was just Crystal having some fun,” I said. Muffin looks at Crystal. Meow, meow!=That not nice to do to Muffin, maybe I bite foot! “Hey now,” said Crystal, “it was just in fun.” Meow, meow.=Okay this time, but next time it is chomp time.

We then all went down for dinner where the atmosphere was still rather tense between Jim and Anne. Seems to me the only reason that Anne is not worried is because she is working with the Clan, perhaps even a member. That would explain why they found Kendra so easily. It would also explain why Jim is so scared right now. But why call us in to help them?

That would seem to suggest that neither Jim nor Anne is working for Andrew. But if Anne is with the Clan, then why not just take care of Andrew that way? Unless Andrew is the true owner of the castle and if he is killed it would just pass on to his relatives. And killing all of his relatives would not only be difficult, but it would bring the police into this little plan of theirs as well.

Jim and Anne must have taken over the castle with a forged document, thinking no one would challenge them. Then along came Andrew with the real deed for the castle. So Jim and Anne got rid of their fake deed, then hired us to make it look like Andrew stole the deed from them. We get it back and Jim and Anne then have the real deed for the castle. Simple. It is the only way it makes sense. But why do they want this old castle anyway?

It does need a lot of work if they want to use it for any kind of tourist attraction. And if they want it for some kind of hotel as well, then it will need even more work. There must be another reason. The Clan is based in Montreal, Canada, which is a long way from here, so why would they be interested? Unless they are planning to move here, but that really does not make sense either, it is rather far from any sizable city to make it worthwhile for their headquarters.

There is definitely another reason and we need to find out what that reason is, quickly. Finally Jim burst out with anger. “Steve, you and your people have just caused us a lot of trouble,” he said, “I want you out of here first thing in the morning!” “Now what a minute,” said Anne, “Steve has helped us a lot, and we need him to prove we are the owners of this castle. Otherwise we lose everything we have!”

“Better to lose this castle, then to lose our lives!” he growled, “I say they go!” “Well, I say they stay,” she said, “and it is me that is paying them, not you! I will not lose this castle, not after all our work to get this place! The treasure here will make us the wealthiest people in the country!” “Sure, just tell the whole world about that treasure,” said Jim shaking his head, “I do not care anymore, I would rather live than have that treasure and die! Those people will be back I tell you, and they will kill everyone!”

“So you were willing to sell out Kendra to get these people off your back, is that right Jim?” I asked. “Better her than me and Anne,” he responded. “Well Jim, if we leave, then you have no protection whatever from those people,” I told him, “but if we stay, then we can help protect you, even though I do not think we should after what you nearly did to Kendra.

But if we stay, we need some cooperation from you two, and some honesty, otherwise we will leave. Think about it.” We then left and went back to our rooms. We had finished eating anyway. Oddly, that other maid remained very calm through all of that talking just now, like it did not bother her at all. I do not trust her, she could be the one working for The Clan. At least we found out why Jim and Anne want this castle.

Treasure can do strange things to people. But what kind of treasure is it, and have they found it already? I get the impression that they have found it, but they are keeping it hidden until they get the deed for the castle. Cinnamon came to our room with a theory of her own.

“Perhaps they did find a treasure,” she said, “and Jim truly owns the castle, but, Anne and Andrew are working together, but secretly so there is no suspicion. Anne hides Jim’s real deed and Andrew comes along with his fake deed which would be easy to prove fake if Jim still had his real deed. Now, Andrew can win the fight in court and they kick out Jim, and Andrew and Anne live happily ever after.”

“Hmm, good thought,” I said. Right then Annelie phoned. “I am sending a photo of Andrew,” she said, “you will not believe who he is…”

To Be Continued.

  1. Exciting ! πŸ˜€ …Andrew has to be someone high in your organization ! πŸ€” …will it be shocking to everyone ? HmmmπŸ€”! This will be a really time of intense thought ! πŸ˜³πŸ•΅οΈβ€β™‚οΈπŸ˜»πŸ˜ΌπŸ˜ΌπŸ˜ΌπŸ˜ΌπŸ‘©πŸ‘©β€πŸ¦°πŸ‘©β€πŸ¦±πŸ‘©β€πŸ¦³πŸ§’β—οΈ

    • Our organization? Not too likely or Annelie would be more shocked. More likely it is someone in the Clan, or someone else we know, such as another criminal. And we do know a few of those. But Anne is involved with whoever it is, I am sure of that. And perhaps that maid as well, she was too calm in all of the conversation, I do not trust her at all.πŸ€”πŸ‘©πŸ˜ΌπŸ˜ΌπŸ˜ΌπŸ˜ΌπŸ‘»πŸ•΅οΈβ€β™‚οΈ

  2. Maybe Andrew is really Anne? Never know with different disguises and holograms and so much duplicity. Many unanswered questions. You do have a huge pool of criminals also that you know.

    • Yes, I have thought that perhaps Anne and Andrew are the same person. That photo from Annelie will help us to know. Then we can plan things a bit better. I do not trust Anne anyway. But somehow I think that Jim is overacting right now. Hard to trust anyone, including that other maid.πŸ€”πŸ‘©πŸ˜ΎπŸ˜ΎπŸ˜ΎπŸ˜ΎπŸ‘»πŸ•΅οΈβ€β™‚οΈ

      • Yes, here you are on a case and cannot trust the people who hired you or others for that matter. Jim is overacting but there is still plenty that you do not know. It would be easy to go home but I suspect that trouble would follow you.

      • Yep, we can’t run away from this one now. Especially with all the fun coming up!πŸ€”πŸ‘©πŸ‘»πŸ•΅οΈβ€β™‚οΈ

      • Hopefully it will work okay, but Toledo doesn’t really like to lose and one of these days it will be him or me I’m sure!πŸ€”πŸ‘»πŸ•΅οΈβ€β™‚οΈ

      • Yes, that would be the ideal outcome. Sometimes I think that Toledo doesn’t really want to kill me though. Perhaps he likes to match wits with me and just hurt me now and then.πŸ€”πŸ‘»πŸ•΅οΈβ€β™‚οΈ
