Wednesday Words, With Coffee! #19

Good morning everyone! Time to grab a cup of coffee and watch the happenings out on the deck this morning. It is really a beautiful morning, the sun is shining cheerfully, the air is warm, buds are swelling on the trees. It really looks like a spring morning today. There are even tiny leaves popping out on the Ivory Silk Lilac Tree out back here.

They are originally from northern Japan where they grow naturally. But they have become a popular ornamental tree all around the world. They have large ivory colored clusters of flowers and they are very hardy, surviving our winters nicely. The robins were singing so nicely earlier this morning, it is always nice to wake up to their beautiful song each morning.

Jasper, the Red Squirrel, seems to be getting tired.

GPS, one of my chipmunks, was here bright and early this morning too. He did take a break, possibly to eat his breakfast, and now he is back again. The Yellow-rumped Warbler showed up this morning, chirping away at the top of a large maple tree out back. They are late coming back this spring, like all the rest of the birds. A couple of Tree Swallows were flying around too, also quite late for them to return.

I am hoping the Phoebe shows up again this year. I would love to get a pic of one and the best time is when there are no leaves on the trees. They can be quite a friendly bird. When I was in my teens we had a pair of Phoebes nest in our garage every year. We also had a pair of Barn Swallows nest in that garage for a couple of years too.

Looks like he is getting ready to lie down.

There are not many birds around today. Yesterday there were still a lot of Purple Finches around and lots of sparrows. I lost nearly all of the Evening Grosbeaks over the weekend when I was unable to feed them. There were still 8 around this morning for a short time, down from 67 that I had on Saturday. There are only a handful of sparrows left it seems.

I did not think they would leave so soon. But more will be arriving soon too, though they will not stay long since it is getting late in the season. I was hoping the Rose-breasted Grosbeaks would be back again this year, but it is getting late for them too, so if they do show up it will just be for a short time. I would like to get a better pic of the female.

He did lie down, guess eating sunflower seeds is tiring work. He did have his eyes closed, but I moved and stepped on a peanut shell which crunched and made him open his eyes.

I would like to see the Indigo Bunting again this year and maybe get a pic of the female. But more pics of the male would also be nice. If they do visit, it should be soon. I see Herb, the male Hairy Woodpecker, is here getting some peanuts to take back to his mate, Wendy, who will be sitting on eggs now. Well, that is our morning for today. Have a wonderful day everyone and God bless!

Steve and Muffin.
