Saturday Sharing, Walk By The River! #23

Good morning and Happy Saturday to everyone! It is a beautiful, sunny morning with a very vivid blue sky. The trees shine such a rich green against that blue background. It is a bit cool however, quite a difference suddenly. After a thunderstorm late yesterday a cold front moved in and brought with it a strong north wind and that gave us much cooler temperatures for this morning of only 52F (11C).

However, it is only for today, then tomorrow we will be back to more normal temps for this time of year. Then back to hot as the week progresses. It is actually very nice on the deck right now with that sun shining. The deck always gets warmer once the sun hits it directly.

Looking down river while walking along the rocky shore. There is a dangerously strong current in this river, not a place to go swimming.

There is not much action with birds this morning, but that is usual now with nesting in full swing for all the birds. But they still show up now and then throughout the day. The goldfinches were just here, a pair of them. None of the birds stay long when they do come though.

The chipmunks are busy every day now, Pocket, Coffee, GPS, Skamper and Scooter all come around. Chester did come around regularly, but he stopped, which is too bad as he was quite friendly. The others are too and all will come up and sit on my knee to get their peanuts. It is laundry day, not the most fun thing to do on such a nice day, but it needs to be done.

Looking up river from the same spot.

I keep it regular, every Saturday morning. Sunday morning is time for church. Monday morning is for shopping. Plus, of course, other things throughout the day. Summer months are my main time for photography. Summer months refers to the snow free months of the year. Walking by the river. That is a summer activity that cannot be beat.

It is just so beautiful down there, and so much more wildlife than around the house. I need to start walking to the river again, while we still have summer. The river level is lower this year than it was last year when it was at a record high level. It is more normal this year apparently. I have not made even one trip down there yet this summer which is terrible.

Another view looking down river from an area further up river from the last spot.

Of course, the thought of meeting that huge bear is what keeps me from going down there this year. But it is beautiful walking along the rocky shoreline by the waters edge. Or high above the river where we can look down on the water and watch as the pelicans soar past beneath us.

One of the spots where I like to sit.

There are some beautiful picnic spots along the way where the ground is quite level, covered in moss and a thick mat of pine needles. Walking along the narrow winding trail as it cuts through deeply shaded areas, then opening again to rocky shoreline and another area with a thick mat of pine needles, perfect for a picnic spot as well.

The beauty of the river. Such a blessing to enjoy it. Perfect solitude. Well, I hope you all have a wonderful weekend and God bless!

  1. The thought of meeting that huge bear would keep me away from visiting the river! Your β€œsitting spot” is a perfect place to rest and reflect. It looks so peaceful. So hard to believe the river has a dangerous current just by looking at the pics. I hope you get to enjoy the short summer you have there. Happy Saturday, Steve! β˜•οΈ

    • Yep, that bear is what does it for sure!πŸ»πŸ™€ But it is such a beautiful spot to sit and relax and just enjoy everything around. True solitude. Yes, the river is very deceiving that way, the surface can be nice and calm, but just below that current is strong enough to pull even a strong swimmer under in just a couple minutes. Many people have tried to swim it over the years and have been pulled under and drowned so quickly. I am enjoying things already, even though I’m not getting out much. Thanks Renee, enjoy the weekend!πŸ˜ŠπŸ˜ΈπŸŒžβ˜•β˜•

    • Well, the outlet from the lake is right here and there is a lot of water to go out and a relatively narrow part of the river here, so it produces a serious current which is not always visible on the surface, but it is deadly as many people have discovered.
It is such a beautiful area by the river, I miss going there.☹️🐻
      Have a good night Sharon!πŸ˜ŠπŸ˜»πŸŒ›πŸ’€πŸ˜΄
