Midweek Musings. #3 Wasps and Chipmunks.

Hello everyone! This is an interesting morning. It was cloudy with a steady rain at 6am when I went out to feed Sir George and Lady Pearl. At 7am Sir Henry and Lady Patricia showed up and it was cloudy, but the rain had stopped. Now the sun is shining and it is mostly blue sky showing out there, though a few clouds still remain. We did get a fair bit of rain overnight again though.

Yesterday was a nice, mostly sunny day with a high of 70F (21C). I was talking with a woman yesterday who said it was so hot. But a lot of people around here would say that. I am not one of them. I was wearing a jacket. Oh well. Everyone is different. Speaking of wasps. There is a certain wasp around here and I have been trying to get a picture of it. I have also not been successful.

This is Scooter the chipmunk before he would come onto my lap.

Though I did manage to get a blurry picture once. It just happened. So, yesterday afternoon I was standing on my deck watching the bees down below in the raspberry patch. They seem to love raspberry flowers. I wonder what their raspberry honey tastes like? Anyway, I was standing there and something landed on my right hand. That is the hand I use to hold my camera and take pictures.

But that same day he did make it.

Anyway, I look down and it is that wasp! The one I have been trying to capture with my camera. This wasp looks different than the typical wasp. It is one inch (25mm) long, and is quite colorful. Does it sting? I am not sure. But considering the size of this wasp, if it does sting, I am sure it would hurt considerably. So I do not wish to find out. It just sat there on my hand. With no way for me to get a picture. I would love to be that close to it when I was in a position to take a picture of the wasp. But, alas, it was not to be.

I almost think it was laughing at me. Sigh. Speaking of chipmunks. They have been busy lately, and Mica has been busy chasing them. One time I put my fist down toward him and told him to stop. He jumped at my fist! And got hit on the nose. No, I did not move, he just happened to hit my fist when he jumped at me. It made him stop and shake his head, and he then left.

This is Coffee. When they fully trust someone they will sit with their back facing that person.

The nerve of this little squirrel, actually attacking me! Guess he will need some flying lessons after all. I sat with the chipmunks for a while and fed them peanuts so that Mica would not give them a hard time. They enjoyed being able to relax and get peanuts. Coffee even thanked me, as can be seen in the last picture. For some reason GPS has trouble climbing up my leg, he cannot hold onto my jeans.

Coffee has two peanuts in his cheeks, now he is thanking me. Or perhaps he is saying “please can I have a big peanut.” I would sometimes give a big peanut to them for their third peanut.

The others have no trouble however. So I sit close to the step, then he can jump up. I will share more fun times with the squirrel vs chipmunks another time. The chipmunks keep Mica quite busy at times. Well, guess that is all for today, have a wonderful day everyone and God bless!
