For a smile as wide as a country sunrise
Hi everyone and welcome back! Time to grab a coffee, pull up a chair and chat for a while. It is another cloudy day here and a bit on the chilly side with a temperature of -15F (-26C) and it feels even colder with that wind howling out there. It has even started to snow a little bit. They still have not finished with the water yet.
The main pipes are done but now they need to put in new sprinklers. So, hopefully they should be finished by this time next week. They tested the fire alarms again yesterday. That high pitched whistle gives me a headache, and they keep it going for such a long time.

This is the female Pileated Woodpecker.
Plus there are two shorter alarms after the main one. All in all it took about 30 minutes. That is a long time to listen to that sharp whistle. Oh well, at least it works good. There is also a super bright flashing light in the bedroom when that alarm is sounding.
I have not been sleeping well lately, if I get 5 hours sleep I’m doing good, usually it is less and that is just not enough for me. I probably need a new mattress, so I am going to look into that. Getting a good night’s sleep is important for our overall health. Speaking of sleeping, Muffin is sleeping again having her noon nap. A raven just flew past the window, only about 3 feet away from it actually.

This is the male Pileated Woodpecker, notice the red stripes by its beak, with the female this part is black.
That is getting kind of close. And he was flying fast too, the strong wind was helping it along. Hmm, there is a nice big eagle flying around out there too. It is a nice adult with a pure white head and tail. They are quite a majestic bird. Speaking of majestic birds, the pictures I am sharing today are all of the Pileated Woodpecker, both male and female.
They are big birds, a bit larger than a crow. Last winter I finally had them coming to my feeders. That is the first time since the late 1980s that I have had them at my feeder. Towards the end of August last year the male began to come around to see if my feeders were out. Unfortunately they were not.

Here the male is reaching over to the suet feeder.
I likely would have had them coming all winter this year. Feeding the birds is a great hobby, but unfortunately it is not allowed here. Well, guess it is time to go once again. I hope you all have a wonderful day and God bless!

Beautiful woodpeckers. Nice you get an eagle flying nearby by. The raven sounds like it wanted to visit you. Trust you will get your sleep issues resolved , with a new mattress.

I always enjoy seeing those big woodpeckers. Having them come to the feeder last winter gave me lots of opportunity to photograph them.
Yes, my mattress has definitely gotten too soft, I need more support. It is never easy finding the right mattress and the selection in this town is rather limited.π€ππΊββ

Perhaps you should shop on the internet and have it delivered to your apartment. My current bed was ordered on the internet and is very comfortable. Friends have also done this and been happy with the results. You have to read many reviews and then find the one that best fits your needs.

Yes, I have started to look around and see what is available out there. There is certainly a much better selection than what we have in town.

To me -14 degrees is more than ” a bit chilly” !! π₯Άπ₯Ά

I would imagine that it doesn’t get that cold down there. Does it ever go below zero?π€

Well I’m sure someplace in California it does get below 0, but not where I live, thank you! Lol. But, it has been cold enough to snow and for it to last a couple days! But cold for me is having to put on long pants and long sleeves. Lol

Well, that is starting to get cool, or what we would call a beautiful spring day. Hmm, that’s how we dress in the summer!π€π

Oh well, one degree doesn’t make much difference. I’m happy we never got into the real cold stuff this winter.π₯Άπ
