For a smile as wide as a country sunrise
Good morning everyone! It is a cloudy but nice, mild morning here today. The weather has been fantastic for this time of year. Yesterday was mainly sunny, the birds were singing beautifully letting us know they are back for the summer. I heard a couple song sparrows yesterday morning, they are not a colorful sparrow, but they are one of my favorites, I love their beautiful song.

Song Sparrow, they have such a lovely song.
Grackles are also back again, I was able to see a few of them yesterday. A robin is singing loud and clear right now, so nice to hear them back again. There was an American Kestrel out here this morning which caused all the birds to go quiet for a bit until it left. Kestrels will often go after small birds.
They are common in this area and are a member of the falcon family. They are also quite beautifully colored birds about the size of a Blue Jay. Although I have seen a lot of them I still have not been able to get a photo of one. Sigh. Perhaps this year. Speaking of flickers, they are not back yet, at least I have not seen or heard one yet, but they should show up soon.

I am sure that my favorite sparrow, the Fox Sparrow above, are back now.
Anyway, they are another bird for which I need a good photo. I have photos, but they need to be upgraded with better ones. Maybe this will be a better area of town for them. I have so many birds on my “wanted” list, but most of them are small, like warblers. Warblers are very active little birds that do not like to sit still for long, making it hard to get photos of them.
They are, however, some of our most colorful birds, so I keep trying. Some of our trees are starting to bud now so it will not be long and those beautiful green leaves will be showing once again. It seems like such a long time ago that we had green leaves. Come to think of it, it was a long time ago. Oh well.

Here is a Yellow-bellied Sapsucker, female. I tried to get her to look right at me but this was the best I could get from her.
We will be returning to some cooler weather this week, with some rain and even snow flurries. So that will slow down the growth of those new leaves. The grass is also turning green all around town, but no sign of flowers yet. Some people with flower gardens have said that plants are growing already.
I am really looking forward to seeing flowers blooming again. Once May arrives I should be able to put my geraniums out on my balcony. They are sure growing right now. Well, guess that is all for today, I hope you have a wonderful day and God bless!

Yes indeed, the signs of spring are everywhere now, though it is a bit cooler and rainy today. We need the rain though. Yep, each little bird has it’s own beauty even if it’s not colorful.ππΊββ

So sad you only got rain from that last bit of storm the other day. I was hoping for snow for you and your pictures!π€

Sorry to say, but if we did get snow, I would not be taking pictures, not this time of year. Unless we got a record amount, then maybe. We are supposed to get cooler weather and flurries the next couple of days but it warms up again on Saturday thankfully. Have to wait for next winter now, I am very happy we got such an early spring this year!ππΊββ
