For a smile as wide as a country sunrise
Hi everyone! Hard to believe that we have gone through a whole week in August already. And I’m way behind in my summer ramblings too. I decided it’s time to get at some more of them while summer is still with us. It won’t be around much longer. Really, summer is done in another 3 weeks. Kind of sad. Right now it feels more like fall than summer.
The last couple of days have been cool, only around 72F (22C). Tonight it’s supposed to drop down to 50F (10C), and then only a high of 63F (17C) tomorrow with showers. But the weekend is supposed to be warmer, then cool off again next week. Oh well. The birds are really flocking together now. The morning chorus of birds is over except for a few hardier species.

A beautiful Harebell, one of my all time favorite wildflowers.
Some species of birds are already heading south. That part is really sad. I wasn’t able to get any photos of our pelicans this year and they will soon be gone again until next year. Right now there is a dog barking. It has been barking steadily for the last 20 minutes. Just doesn’t quit. The dog’s owner tied it up outside and left it. Guess the dog doesn’t like that too much. Sigh.

There were large bunches of Harebells in places.
Oh look, the owner returned and took the dog inside. Nice and quiet out there now, except for some kids playing. That actually sounds nice. It wasn’t really the dog’s fault though, it just didn’t like being tied up outside and left alone. Oh well. I can hear a bird singing now. Hmm, stopped already. There is a flock of grackles out here now, quite a large flock. They are getting together a bit early this year.
That doesn’t mean they will leave early though. Grackles are hard to predict. The flock is moving on elsewhere now I see. Looks like there are Starlings with them too. Hmm, the kids are leaving too. The only noise out there now is the traffic. And there is lots of that. Oh well. Hey, a blue jay just flew past the window, I haven’t seen one of those for quite some time. It was all alone, which is quite odd.

Evening Primrose blooms in the evening and at night, but these were still open in the morning.
I have to repot a couple of my plants soon, they have definitely outgrown the pots they are in presently. Unfortunately I forgot to buy some potting soil when I was out shopping on Monday, so I have to put off this project for a bit. I need to plant more oat grass for Muffin too. That I can do today, I have enough potting soil for that one. I am sharing some more wildflower pics today from our recent day trip, hope you enjoy. Have a wonderful Wednesday everyone and God bless!
Steve and Muffin.
