For a smile as wide as a country sunrise
Good morning everyone! We finally had a beautiful, sunny day yesterday. It was so nice to see that sun shining brightly once again. It seems all we have been getting lately are cloudy days with steady snow or flurries. However, with the sunshine comes the cold weather too. That is one thing about winter, cloudy days mean milder weather, sunny days mean cold.
And it was cold yesterday, about -18F (about -27C) and it was a windy day as well. But it did warm up to 2F (-17C) by mid afternoon, so that wasn’t so bad. I was hoping that eagle which likes to sit on the building next to us, would show up yesterday so I could get a photo of him in the sunshine. However, I didn’t see him on any of the occasions that I looked out there. Oh well, maybe another day.

Black-Capped Chickadee.
Our postal strike is finally over after 32 days. The government had to order them back to work though, but at least the mail is starting to move again. Too late for the Christmas season though. No Christmas cards this year. I like sending Christmas cards, but if I sent them now, people wouldn’t get them until mid January and that would be February for any overseas mail.
I will forget it for this year, except perhaps for a few, and send an email to everyone on my list instead. I still prefer sending Christmas cards though. I enjoy it. And I enjoy receiving cards. Maybe it’s just a tradition, but it’s a fun tradition. Oh well, these things happen. Hmm, maybe I should send out cards now for next Christmas. They would have lots of time to arrive anyway!

Black-Capped Chickadee on my hand, looking at me.
It is cloudy again today, and we are supposed to get some light snow later. I should maybe do some baking today. I haven’t baked my coffee cupcakes for a long time now, so maybe I will make some today. I should bake some cookies too. Excuse me while I laugh about that one. There, now I feel better. I haven’t baked any cookies for a long time now.
It’s a little harder to bake the ones I used to do now that I have to use gluten free flour. It is just not the same as regular flour. And it’s a bit more expensive. For 10lb (about 4.5kg), it costs around $70, though the price varies a bit depending on where a person buys it. And I discovered that not all flour that says it’s gluten free, actually is. A person has to be careful. Or I end up being very sick.

Another Black-Capped Chickadee on my hand. I really do miss all my little bird friends.
It is safer to buy the more expensive flour, naturally, then it is certified to be gluten free. And that is important. Oh well. I’m going to do some baking anyway. I love baking. Especially cookies. I love eating cookies too. Home baked cookies. Well, time for more coffee while I get ready to bake. Have a great day everyone and God bless!

Steve, I enjoyed your sharing of some winter hospitality. Perhaps the eagle will book a return engagement. Your love of cookies might prove contagious to me. I need to use keto-based ingredients because of my sugars.

Thanks for stopping by Richard! I think the eagle is there most days, but he often sits on the other side of the building where I can’t see him. Others have told me that anyway. Cookies are just so good, especially home baked kinds. ππΊπβοΈ

I just love chickadees. I got one to land on my hand once when I was a young girl. I even took a picture, as you did.
I am glad the postal strike is over, at least for now. I haven’t gotten any mail yet though. I’m waiting for a bumper sticker that I ordered for my husband. π

Yes, chickadees are one of my favorite birds and I love it when they come and land on my hand for food, sometimes 5 or 6 at a time waiting on my arm for a chance to get on my hand.
I haven’t gotten any mail yet either, probably won’t until after New Year’s. Hopefully it will get back to normal soon. Have a great week and Merry Christmas!ππΊπβοΈ
