For a smile as wide as a country sunrise
Happy New Year to everyone! Here it is, January 1st, once again. It is mainly cloudy here, but the sun is shining somewhat too and there is some light snow falling. Plus it is a bit on the cold side. At least, compared to what it has been.
It is still not very cold for winter, but colder weather is coming. We can usually count on January to be cold, usually very cold. Though not always. Some years February turns out to be the coldest month, but that is more unusual.

One of my Red-Breasted Nuthatches.
I always used to go for a nice long walk on January 1st, or sometimes I would go snowshoeing if the snow was too deep for walking. I didn’t follow walking paths or trails, I made me own. Just went walking through the forest to see what kind of wildlife would be visible on that particular day.

Same one with his piece of a peanut.
One year it was very mild, the temperature was 20F (about -6.5C), and one year it was cold, with a temperature of -54F (about -48C).
There was no wind that day so I dressed warmly and headed out. It was hard to breathe that cold air though. I will share that walk at a later time. Today I just want to share more of my bird friends with you, or at least, ones that I used to have when I was feeding birds before moving to this apartment building.

This is a different one, unfortunately I forgot to mark some of these photos so I don’t know which nuthatch it was on my hand. I had several of the nuthatches named.
Feeding the birds is not allowed here. So I don’t. Anyway, I hope you enjoy the photos of my former friends. Have a great day and God bless!
Steve and Muffin.
