Monday’s Mushrooms. #2

Hi everyone and Happy Monday! I hope your week is going great so far and today I have another mushroom to share with you. This mushroom can actually go by different names depending on the book used for identification. That can make things a bit confusing, especially if you are just beginning to learn mushroom identification. That’s why I always say, go with someone who knows mushrooms already, it’s much safer that way.

Today we have the Yellow-Latex Milky mushroom. It is a very common mushroom in our area and it can also be listed as an Orangish Milk Cap. Both can be found here and both are listed as edible with a caution. They can be confused with other mushrooms that are not edible. Even the Yellow-Latex Milky has a slow very acrid hot taste which apparently is unpleasant and therefore not sought after by mushroom collectors.

This mushroom has a cap up to 3 to 4 inches across (7.5 to 10cm). The one in my photo is 3 inches. They can be found under pines, especially white pines, but also in mixed forests. All that I have found have been under both red and white pines. They can be found from July to October. Well, that is all for our mushrooms for today. Have a great day and God bless!
