For a smile as wide as a country sunrise
The next day Wemyss was eating his breakfast in his hotel suite, which is the entire top floor of the hotel, which he also owns. “I hope everything is ready for the meeting later this morning,” said Wemyss. “Yes sir,” said Hugh, “the buyers will be here at precisely 11am as you wished.” “Good, good,” said Wemyss, “after that we will pay a visit to those Investigators and tell them to leave, or else.” However, a short time later, another of his top men came to see Wemyss with some bad news. “What is it Walter?” asked Wemyss.
“Bad news sir,” he said, “every shipment of drugs and guns, Quebec City, Paris, Berlin and London have all been hijacked and completely disappeared. The drivers of the trucks can’t remember a thing. When they pulled into their destination drop off points their trucks were empty of our cargo.” “What??” he exclaimed, “How could they be empty of the drugs and guns?” “Someone must have stopped the trucks and emptied all of our stuff so only the regular cargo was left,” said Walter, “but why the drivers can’t remember anything is odd. And it happened to all of them which is also odd. It must have been a large outfit to accomplish that.”
“But no one knew of those shipments and when they would arrive except me!” Wemyss exclaimed, “I planned this out perfectly because it was our largest shipment ever! We can’t replace that for weeks and our customers are here now.” Angel went in with Walter and planted a few listening devices in the office for later. She then left with Walter too. The meeting was held and the customers were not happy with this news, but there was nothing they could do, so they left and went to a restaurant for lunch. Dawn then came into the restaurant, took a chair and put it at the table with the six men.
She introduced herself as Dawn Walker, leader of the Night Owls and said she heard about the trouble they were having. They asked how they knew and she smiled, putting a small item on the table. “Listen,” she said. They heard Wemyss talking to some of his men and telling them this could be fantastic news. He had a large amount of drugs in safe hiding which he could sell these men and with a substantial markup. Since drugs would be impossible to get anywhere else on such short notice, he could raise the price on this supply and they would have to pay.
The customers in the restaurant were not happy listening to this. “If you decide to buy from him anyway,” said Dawn, “ask to see the entire amount you are buying before paying, because he no longer has those drugs. I happen to know those drugs went up in flames along with his house. However, I can sell you those drugs for half the original price.” She tossed them each a small packet which they inspected. They were satisfied so she said she would be in touch later. Wemyss then called these men back to his suite and they went. As they got off the elevator, two guards were waiting to search them for weapons as usual, but the customers pulled out their guns and shot the guards.
Then they went into the room where Wemyss and the other men were waiting. Wemyss made a fatal mistake, his room was so soundproof, because he liked it quiet, that they didn’t hear the gunshots. The customers came in and shot Wemyss and his men, then left. But as they came out of the hotel the police were waiting for them and all were charged with first degree murder once they found Wemyss and his men. Wemyss was so confident that he would be around for a long time, that he had no will and no living relatives.
The government took control of his corporation and it was sold, in pieces to a few bidders including Mandar and Baldwin Corporations, the very two that Wemyss hoped to destroy. Once the police had the computers from Wemyss they were able to identify all the people that worked for him, including the police officers, jail and prison guards and it even included bankers, members of parliament, judges and lawyers, even nurses and doctors. All of them were arrested quickly before they could flee. We turned over everything to the police that we had taken from Wemyss. Unfortunately the gems were never found, but perhaps one day Callison will remember more about where she hid them.
He had quite the criminal empire, but it crumbled rather quickly due to one lone stray cat that nearly died trying to save his newly adopted human. Later we took Callison back to her parents home to pick up some things she wanted to hopefully find and keep, including her toy cat, Fuzzy. To our amazement it looked identical to our toy cat, Fluffy, only a different color. Carolyn was soon restoring Fuzzy to it’s original ability, and upgrading it a bit too, just like our Fluffy. I can hardly wait for Fluffy and Fuzzy to meet each other, it should be a purrfectly fun time!
Fuzzy may have been a lone stray cat, but he is now surrounded by 26 other feline friends. Callison has no family either, but she is now surrounded by, well, a lot, of new adopted sisters! And a brother too. It might take her a while to get used to the fact of living with ghosts though, and numerous children. One day Steffie was showing Callison the stair slide just as Misty was coming up to visit me. However, Misty saw the stairs convert to the slide, and knowing that Steffie always stayed on the same side, she just stepped over to the other side, smiling that for once she would be safe.
However, Callison decided to try it out too because it looked like a lot of fun, so, down she went. “Wheeeeeeeee!” yelled Steffie and she slid past Misty. Then Misty continued up the slide, not knowing what awaited her. “Yahoooooo!” yelled Callison. Misty’s eyes got real wide and ‘whump, flop, flop, flop, flooomp!’ “Auntie Misty,” complained Steffie, “you spoiled Auntie Callison’s first time!” “I didn’t know there were hazards,” said Callison. “I should have stayed in bed,” groaned Misty. Another case ended, another fun day begins.
